Excuse Form for Trainings, Camps & Special Events

Hello everyone,Please see below for the Excuse Form. It must be used each time you are absent from training, camp or any other official Red Cross events. If you are more than 30 minutes late for training, an Excuse Form will also be required.  By the way, please don't trouble your teachers to fill in the form for you (or send emails or write letters to excuse you). Just fill in the form yourself and get your teacher to endorse it (for school-related excuses). Also, submitting the first page of the excuse form will do. The Attendance Procedures and Regulations are on the last 2 pages. Thanks!

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 8

Hi all,

I believe you have heard of S**t Kingz from DVOTW 6. So here is their winning performance at Bodyrock 2010.

Some things i wan to draw your attention to.

1. Use of props. U haven been really seeing a lot of props used in the prev DVOTW so here is an example of how u can use a hankerchief as part of the dance. Do note that props can be rili useful but u nid to be rili confortable with it before even using it for a dance.

2. Ending. The ending firstly is dramatic. Endings leave the final impression so it is gd to hav a creative yet impactful ending. Secondly, even at the drama part they keep their syncronisation. It is a dance after all, so it wil look nice will all the performers are coordinated.

Well, keep loking out for more vids from S**t Kingz. :P

National First-Aid Competition

Hey all,

The National First-Aid Competition just ended yesterday

We have achieved:
Finalist in the Management Category
1st in Awareness Category

Great job to the FACommers and Awareness Cat ppl ! I know your holidays are pretty occupied with all these stuff, but we appreciate the time and effort you guys put in.

Here is our First-Aid Awareness booth. Lots of effort (and money :P) put in for the board game. FIY, they are supposed to raise the awareness on the importance of First-Aid to the public and our unit did this mainly through the games and interactive elements.

For our management team, although we didn't manage to get into the top three positions, it is commendable for them to perform under such conditions. (honestly, the scenario and the injuries took me by surprise) There is always room for improvement and we will work towards it next year in FACom!

Nevertheless, thx for coming down to support our fellow unit mates for the competition. For Yr 1s, i hope this is an eye-opener, as u can see how a first-aid team should manage a scenario (e.g. firedrill). Next year, it will be your turn, do not miss it.

See you back in school, trng as usual :P

Bring it on!

free speech &c.

to whomever it may concern:

the views posted by the user 'david' on the unichannel tagboard, amongst others, are in no way representative of the Raffles Institution Red Cross unit. These views are neither endorsed by this unit nor reflect the opinions held by the rest of the members of the unit.

david has been informed of the consequences of his actions; however, we are in no position and have no right to control or restrict what he chooses to post, of his own volition, on various sites online. his views may be offensive, or just plain irritating - but they are his nonetheless, and thus have a right to be expressed. on the other hand, we don't have to listen to them.

we understand that people may be offended by these views, and apologise to those who may have been. however, what we cannot and will not do is to take responsibility for, or restrict and control, what he elects to post online. in this digital sphere, he is (as are all of us) acting as a free agent and expressing his own opinions, as is his right to do so.

these opinions are his and his alone, and it is not within our power to suppress or restrict them. we can only advise and guide him - whether he chooses to take our advice is entire up to him, as it is for others to take notice of and react to the comments he has posted online. as again, his comments are in no way representative of the rafflesian community at large.

we appreciate your understanding in this matter.

---
we do not censor.

what you choose to say outside of training is entirely up to you. we believe in the right to free speech; to the freedom of expression.

all we can do is to remind you of the possible consequences of your actions. whether you choose to listen, or not, is another matter entirely. similarly, whether you want to take notice of and react to what others post online is, of course, up to you to decide.

of course, if you elect to post something that is false, slanderous or a misrepresentation of our views or positions, then we will take action by providing the true side of the story, exposing your lies for what they are.

but opinions themselves are another matter. we cannot and will not control them. it is up to you to recognise and acknowledge the ramifications of what you want to say, and then decide if it's really worth saying or not.

we can only help you understand and appreciate the consequences of your words and actions. ultimately, it still remains your choice to do whatever you may want to do. take note that once something goes online, it's pretty hard to take back.

freedom of speech is a universal right.
so is the right to ignore people who are making themselves out to be idiots online.

I hope this makes things clear.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 5

Hey guys!

Guess what this post is all about (lol)! Be introduced to Choreo Cookies, a combination of efforts from awesome choreographers Keone Madrid and Mariel Martin (both are engaged to each other!). The word 'cookies' may seem soft for a dance crew, but it's the first word that describes them best. They were placed second in this particular competition, Bodyrock 2010, only to be beaten by a 4-man crew (more about them next time). Okay, enough. Time for the video!

It's quite long, but it did have our attention the whole time. March camp is approaching at an amazing speed. Get your platoon flags ready!

March Camp Briefing Slides

Hi everyone,

Here are the March Camp Briefing Slides.

On a side note, the latest contact list for this year is up! (On the sidebar). The password should be very obvious; if not just come email us/find us after training privately to get the password. This is to prevent all our contact details from falling in the hands of other people...so don't say it on the comment box.
