Reminder about HIMARA (June Camp) and excuses

Hi sec 1s and 2s,

This is just a reminder for you that June camp is from 30th May to 1st June (Wednesday to Friday). If you don't already know, this is during the first week of the June holidays.

However, if you are going to miss June camp (any part of it), please submit your excuses to us by next
Wednesday (16 May). We will not accept any excuses after that unless you can prove to us that you were not informed of the event that clashes with camp before 16 May. So holidays and such are not a valid reason unless you have already booked tickets.

That said, we really hope that you try your best to make it for camp because while the camp will definitely be tiring, but we hope it'll be enriching and enjoyable as well.

On a separate note, the Passing-Out Ceremony (POC) is coming up soon. It'll be on the last day of camp. For those who don't know, it's a ceremony where the Year 4s formally hand over the unit to the Year 3s (us). It's also a ceremony where the Year 4s look back on their years in the unit and for us to thank them for their contributions. This year's POC will be even more special, because it's the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of RIRC.

As a tribute to the Year 4s (Batch 60), both Batch 62 and Batch 63 will have to make a video to recognise and thank them for their efforts over the years. So while the details are not finalised yet (we'll post them on the blog when they are), we hope you can start thinking about ideas for your videos (since you're so free after the MYCTs...) and perhaps how you'd like to thank each Year 4. The deadline for the video will be 21 May (next next Monday).

Good luck, and see you next Monday! Hope you've done well for your MYCTs!

Dance Video of the Week, Season 2 Episode 4

And Dance Video of The Week is back again for moar aw50m3 videos. Hahahahahhahhahahahhaa.
Anyways, there's (happily/sadly, depending on how you look at it) been a change of plans for Performance Night -- Sec 1s and 2s, you don't have to choreograph a dance anymore. That doesn't mean you're not performing, however :) Hooray for that

In any case, DVOTW will still be continuing, because, well, even if there's no PN, it's good to have some fun and darn cool stuff on the blog so you can destress and rewind on Saturdays and gasp in awe and amazement and all that after watching these videos. Yes.

This is taken from ABDC's (America's Best Dance Crew) seventh season, week 4. ABDC is basically a dance competition kind of thing with lots of highly skilled people (as the title suggests) duking it out to win the title of America's best dance crew, and has seen many great crews like Jabbawockeez, Poreotix and all that. So yeah since your exams are pretty much over, go and watch the crews dance. It's worth the time.

Have fun with slacking! (Or rushing projects and all)

Good luck for your MYCTs!

Hi,

You should be sleeping by now, but just wanted to wish anyone still online good luck for his MYCTs! :D

Don't sleep too late or you'll just be sabotaging yourself. By now you won't really be able to salvage things if you haven't been working hard enough, so just face your fate :P. But if you've been working hard enough then you won't be able to absorb much more, so just relax and go to bed.

See you in two weeks' time!

Dance Video of the Week, Season 2 Episode 3

Hello, people
DVOTW is back again with another awesome dance video
Found it just 6 minutes ago while searching for a video to upload :P

Anyways, if you watch it, you'll notice that the concept is darn cool -- they're like singing the song with their bodies (or something along the line), which probably explains the name of their crew, "The Body Poets".

You might also note the fact that the dancers, at times, follow the lyrics quite closely (like when the guy's tapping at an imaginary phone in his hand at around 3:29. You can follow that style of choreography and be literal about the dance/song, which is actually pretty easy though not always the best way to do it

Besides all that, their costumes are pretty cool -- that's another point to take note of. For your dance performance, try not to simply turn up in random clothes and all that but coordinate and make sure that your clothes synergize and fit your performance. For example, if you're doing a high song, don't come wearing drab and dull clothes. And if you're acting as a spy and want to make it darn obvious in a simple manner, you could wear something like the stereotypical business suit + tie and all that with a knife or something.

In any case, MYCTs are in two days, so good luck to all :)

DVOTW Season 2, Number 2

Hello people,
Hope you had fun at WRCD and learnt a bit through your interactions with the elderly and all
In any case, DVOTW is back again! Albeit a tad late, since it's Sunday already -- but never mind :P
This week, we present you with the video titled "Evolution of Dance", depicting none other than the evolution of dance (yes I don't say).
Funfact: It used to be video with the highest views on YouTube
Anyways, you can get inspiration from some of the songs/moves used in here -- just maybe not the groin-thrusting parts though.

Have a nice day, and good luck with mugging+mycts

Changes to the blog

Hi sec 1s and 2s,

Please bear with us as we're currently updating the blog and changing things. The blog might not be too "stable" for some time as we're experimenting with stuff.

Sorry if it causes any inconvenience for you. Though I don't see why you should be doing anything on the blog since you should be busy mugging for your exams.

Good luck, and have fun mugging! :D

World Red Cross Day

Greetings, people

Do take note that only the Year 1s and 4s are required to go -- WRCD isn't compulsory for the rest of you (Year 2s and 3s). However, it'd be good to voluntarily go there as well (if you're not too busy mugging, of course) and celebrate the Red Cross spirit together with other schools all around Singapore :)

In any case, good luck with studying and your exams!
And have a nice day.

Himara Camp and Inter-UG Expedition

Hello Cadets,

During the Inter-UG Talk today, we were informed of the Inter-UG Expedition, which will be on until the day before our Himara camp. However, Himara Camp takes priority over the Inter-UG Expedition, and you will not be granted excuse due to the aforementioned reason. Therefore, if you are interested in the Inter-UG Expedition, you will have to attend both that camp as well as our own May Camp. Please take note of this. Also good luck for your MYCTs :)

~Batch 61

World Red Cross Day Attire

Hello Cadets,

Just a gentle reminder for those going for the World Red Cross Day this Saturday, you need to be dressed in school uniform - ties aren't necessary, however. Additionally if you are unable to attend WRCD with valid reasons, please contact Amos IC (amozenguin@hotmail.com) stating your name, batch and reasons--also do note that we'll be taking attendance and collecting your consent forms on the day itself. Thanks.

Reporting Time for Wednesday's Training

Hi All
All cadets will need to assemble and fall in at the S.Raja Block tomorrow by 3.40 pm as there will be an Inter-UG talk at the Auditorium at 3.45 pm. Please tell your batchmates and friends about this change and help to spread the word around. Please be punctual (and perhaps wear your PE attire under your uniform before school ends such that you can change and fall in quickly).

Thanks!

~B 61 :D

Platoon points update

Hi,

Epsilon won 30 points, Iota 80 points and Omega 40 points on Monday's training.

Randy from Epsilon also sent in a response to the Phoenix Questionnaire, so he wins 50 more points for Epsilon.

So please remember to check the blog regularly and try to answer the phoenix questionnaire. You never know, your response might be chosen to be the best and you'll help your platoon greatly!

Anyway, do look forward to tomorrow's training, as it'll be the last one before the MYCTs come. We've planned some special things for you! :D (unfortunately I won't be there :()

Hi Cadets!
This will be the first edition of this year's daily digest,
which will just talk about what you did on the given day.
Photos too will be frequently put up in the albums section above so be sure to check them time to time!

Anyways, just to recap this is what you guys did today:

Sec 1's: OA knots and FA bandages
Sec 2's: FA spam!

If you have any doubts, just approach any sec 3's.
Alternatively, you can just check the treasure chest above.(Subject notes)

Thank You,
Batch 61

Outdoor Activities lesson on Monday

Hi,

Sec 1s, please bring along some twine on Monday as we'll be having an Outdoor Activities lesson with you (on knot-tying). If you're lazy you can just use your shoelaces though. It's up to you.

We would also like to remind you that you (both Year 1s and 2s) should bring along your bandages for every training. The reason is the bandages in the bandage box we have will not be sufficient if we are having concurrent First Aid lessons, and also because those bandages are usually of very poor quality. So if you want to just get a little edge over the others in Inter-Platoon Competitions, do remember to bring your own bandages! :D

Thanks.

Dance Video of the Week (DVOTW)

Hello people.
This is David, the mentor fot the sec 2s for PN.
Anyways, we're reviving an old initiative by b59! Yay!
So we're going to be posting, as the title suggests, dance videos every week - starting with one that's pretty close to "home", so to speak
This week's video includes last year's winning team for CAC's (Current Affairs Competition - one of the competitions for RCY) interview that brings us through their choreographing process, as well as the dance itself.
Learn from it.

June (or rather, May) camp. 30 May - 1 June 2012 (Wednesday to Friday).

See you there! :D

-Yi Cheng

Friday, April 6, 2012

Camp dates

Just as a reminder, the dates for June Camp are from 30th May til 1st June. This is a pretty early reminder, so there shouldn't be much of a reason why you can't attend camp unless you really have something else pre-scheduled/something more important (merit CCA, family outings and the like don't count) or an emergency.
Hope to see you at camp cos it's gonna be reaaaaal fun :)
Himara!

Phoenix questionnaire 4

Hello cadets! Hope your Friday was good (hurrhurr)
After a long break, the much awaited (or not) phoenix questionnaire returns!

Each valid response is worth 10 platoon points, while the best response will be awarded 50 platoon points, and we will post it on the blog.

Do send in your responses by 9th April, Monday, 10pm to rircb61@googlegroups.com (Sec 3s cannot answer)

Enjoy the rest of the holidays :P

Results for Footdrill (Bronze) Accreditations for Year 2s

Hope you enjoyed your accreds (and the soccer afterwards :P) today.

As you know, everyone passed the theory paper.

There are 10 top scorers (all got 19/20):
  • Fintan
  • Reeve
  • Jun Wei
  • Andrew
  • Gavin
  • Yu Jun
  • Tianyi
  • Shawn
  • Kelvinder
  • Kim
The lowest score was only 16/20, so good job! :D

As for the uniform inspection, the following cadets passed:
  • Li Yuan
  • Forster
  • Gavin
  • Reeve
  • Jun Wei
  • Shawn
  • Yu Jun
  • Tian Yi
  • Kelvinder
  • Fintan
  • Xinghao
The top scorer was Kelvinder.

For practical, these cadets passed:
  • Li Yuan
  • Forster
  • Gavin
  • Fintan
  • Jun Wei
  • Reeve
  • Kelvinder
  • Shawn
Shawn was the top scorer.

As for Adam, Jia Cheng, Andrew and Kim, you will have to come next Wednesday with your full uniform if you wish to retake the accreditations. This also applies for those who were absent today (Mahesh and Sakthivel).

For those who failed, don't be discouraged. We will revise with you next Wednesday before the re-accreditations. All of you will have to retake the Uniform Inspection and Practical. You do not have to retake the theory paper.

Congratulations to Shawn, Kelvinder, and all those who topped theory! We'll be awarding 25 points to Epsilon and 15 points to Iota in recognition for these top scorers' efforts (as for theory, there are so many top scorers it won't matter anyway).

For those who need help in seasoning their beret, you can make use of this video done by UnIChannel (the link on the top right):

Good night, and good luck to those taking their re-accreditations!

Platoon points from Monday's Training

Hello people,

after today's First Aid: One-eye Roller Bandage lesson, the Year 2s have earned more points for their platoons. Yay.

Epsilon: +40

Iota: +70

Omega: +110

Good job, Omega, for acting both parts of the competition, and we hope that everyone can learn from their first aid bandaging (no more "oi" to the casualty from you, Shawn)

Remember that when you're doing First Aid, be professional, tie your bandages with speed and make sure that they have good quality.

That's all, do remember to keep on mugging your FA! (so you can slack during lessons and still survive lol)

Phoenix Questionnaire 3

Here are the results!

Epsilon : 2 responses
Iota : 1 response
Omega : 1 response

We were looking for a more original response, thus Iota wins!

I think that we should have a cheering and singing at the campfire. I think we should have cheering as that would boost the "Red Cross spirit". That will bring all the Red Cross members together. The singing will help everybody to relax and have a fun night.

Let's hope that we can cheer and sing our hearts out during the campfire.
-Aloysius

Thus
Epsilon 40 pts
Iota 60 pts
Omega 20 pts

Have a good rest before camp tomorrow!

Invictus

Sunday!

Hi all!

Hope that all of you have your flags ready, 'cause it's camp tomorrow. Rest well, finish up your work (don't chiong after camp, trust me), and see your at camp Invictus.

We are not participating as individuals, we are as a team.
This is not the power of individuals.
This is the power of togetherness.

3 platoons, 2 days, 1 VICTORY.

-George

P.S Anti-climax, but 25 points to Omega for getting a new blogskin.

Phoenix Questionnaire 3

Hi all! Here's the next question for our Phoenix Questionnaire:

What should be included and thought of when planning a campfire?

Send in your responses by Sunday, 10pm to rircb60@googlegroups.com for 20 points! Best response yields 40 points, and will be posted on the blog.

Phoenix Questionnaire 2 Results

2 posts from Epsilon, and thus the honours of 70 points will go to Epsilon! *cue applause*

Best post:

I personally feel that out of all the RCK value, impartiality is the most important as i feel it is important be impartial when doing anything, to everyone and anyone. We should not mix our personal feelings and emotions into our work and affect our judgement. Especially in a life or death situation where someone has a more serious injury, we should save that person instead of another one who has less severe injuries. We should put aside any personal grudges and be impartial for the benefit of everyone. -Jun Wei

Special mention also goes to Randy for sending in his response. Good job!

Stay tuned for the next installment :)

Blog Challenge Results

In view of the response to the blog challenge, the allocation of points have changed :

Note that the below points are in ranked order, and posts by PMs are NOT COUNTED.

- 50, 25, 5 points for number of people who posted
- 40, 20, 10 points for posts on tagboard / comments
- 45, 25, 15 points for appearance of blog skin
- 15 points for existence of mixpod
- 10 points for each picture posted
- 25 points for each video posted
- 15 points for each post on RC Subject (can be anything)
- Bonus 5 points per Sec 1 (union of Sec 1s)

Thus, points are as follows:

Omega : 50 + 40 + 15 + 15 + 20 + 30 + 10 = 180
Epsilon : 5 + 20 + 45 + 25 = 95
Iota : 25 + 10 + 25 + 10 + 5 = 75

Good job everyone! Short note: Please make an attempt to get a new blogskin, as we know that all the blogskins are not by you guys. Thus, we will award 25 points to whichever platoon which shows the initiative to get a new blogskin. Thanks, and good luck.

Phoenix Blog Challenge Update

After reviewing the blogs for the first time, we find that most of the posts on the blogs are made by the platoon mentors. This should not be the case.

The blogs are by you, for you. It is a way for you to do with your platoon mates what you cannot face to face. It is a means of bonding, for a more cohesive platoon overall.

SO, we would like to see more active participation from you guys. We hope we have made ourselves clear. Anyway good job to Andrew and Tian Yi for visiting the blogs :)

Here are the current projected standings:

Iota
Epsilon
Omega

Keep the posts coming :D

Phoenix Blog Challenge 1

Hi all.

Ever wondered what the uses are for your platoon blogs? Here they are now!

From today until the 10th of march, we will be observing the three platoon blogs. These will be a breakdown of the points:

If a post is made everyday by a different person everyday from tomorrow until the 10th of march, 50 points will be awarded. Note that the posts must be of sufficient relevance to our lives (ie no posts saying stuff like yesnoyesno for the entire post) and must not contain sensitive issues. If there are not enough people, you may repeat.

If the tagboard is actively updated everyday (we must be able to see DISCUSSIONS), 50 points will be awarded.

Blogskin and appearance - If we see a nice new blogskin (custom made ones), we will give either 30, 40 or 50 points depending on whether it is presentable.

Special point section:
- Posts related to Red Cross subjects, humour (NO DARK HUMOUR ALLOWED), or how to handle daily issues (such as the latest post on "stress") will be awarded 5 points each*
- Videos of platoon mates in action (only on RC subjects, such as knot tying and bandage tying, and video must be >1 minute) will be awarded 10 points each (must be of at least 1 minute)*
- Pictures of platoon mates will be awarded 5 points each (no repeating the same person)*
- Multimedia such as podcasts, if working (with proper music) will be awarded 20/30 points

*Get one IC from each platoon to compile and send to rircb60@googlegroups.com. Only 1 final submission is allowed.

That's all, and have fun :)

Hi Guys~!

For Sec 1s only:

There will be a Red Cross Knowledge (Bronze) Accreditation coming up this Wednesday, 29/2/2012. Just read through the notes and have a basic understanding of the concepts~! Good luck~!

For everyone:

As you all know, a new syllabus for all Red Cross Subjects has been released. As such, new notes have been created by HQ. From now on, please refer to these new notes as the accreditations and lessons will be based on them.

The notes can be downloaded from: http://www.redcross.org.sg/articles/red-cross-youth-subject-manuals-cadets/

Please note that the RIRC Treasure Chest will be under maintenance for this whole week, so that the notes can be updated.

Hi everyone,

On Week 10 Monday's training, 5 March 2011, there will be an inter-platoon footdrill competition being held. This is something RIRC hasn't tried for a long time, but we hope it would be as exciting as last year's IPC FA. In the meantime, do enjoy your weekends and prepare yourselves!

May the best platoon win!

First Aid

Hi all

Would just like to extend a reminder for all to use their free time to brush up their FA skills, so as to not suffer too much during the weeks before the SFA test (for Sec 2s) and so as to allow everyone to have a head start in the most basic subject in Red Cross.

Cheers!

Wednesday 15 February

In view of Mr Paul Lim's announcement, training will resume on Wednesday. We apologise for the confusion in matters because there was some confusion too, as to when Take 5 would end for the staff.

And of course 15 Feb is TOTAL DEFENCE DAY!! Do take this opportunity to reflect on how we all play a role in Singapore's defence, and how Red Cross can help out.

For total defence parade that day, ALL RIRC members are to wear their uniform (with the exception of a few Sec3s who have indicated missing uniform parts) and be on the parade square by 6:30 am. Sec2s, we may be unable to get the cap badges soon but please wear as per normal in any case.

Lastly, the venue of the AED course will be at the Multi-purpose Hall at the Yr 5-6 side. If you are unsure about where that is, please assemble at the Raja Blk on Wednesday by 1:45 pm, so we can make our way there by 2 pm.

Thanks.

Monday

Hi guys!

The Year Ones should be coming in tomorrow, so please set a good example by wearing the right attire (ie unit tee) tomorrow. Thanks :)

Please bring 2 bandages each, as usual, in the event that the First Aid Competition team does not have accessibility to bandages. In fact, you should bring 2 for every single training!

That's all from me.

Stress

We are well into the term already, and the culmination of CCA, commitments and miscellaneous activities, while being enriching and a vital part of our education, is starting to take its toll on our health, mentality, and whatnot.

Therefore, in order to stay well, please relieve your stress through methods such as meditation and regular exercise (we can't have you all being absent for training). They not only help to improve fitness level but also to improve efficiency of work.

Thanks.

Oh and please finish up your homework unless you want to have a "happy fun time" when school reopens.

Blog Issues

Hi guys,

Here's wishing the Sec2s and Sec3s a fun time in Malaysian Montage and OBS respectively! From experience, I can say I had a lot of fun with my batchmates there, so appreciate the fact that you are spending your first weeks of school 'out of school' :P

We are aware the blog has mutated recently - especially the tagboard - we will get it fixed as soonest as possible.

And here's wishing a Happy New Year to everyone too! Let's start the year anew ~~

Edit: Yay we've got a new tagboard~!

Cheer up :)

UIP & RCYC (again!)

Good news for the Sec2s! Four of B61 have successfully graduated out of the Unit Instructors' Programme last weekend. Hopefully, regardless of the award received at the end of the programme, they have had an enriching experience, especially with other units' Red Cross members. They are:

David
Jian Xing
Amos
Yi Cheng (who received a merit award)

Congratulations to these four!

On a side note, George, Ching Wai, and Kian Guang have just finished CS1 of the Red Cross Youth Challenge this morning. Although probably not as content-rich as UIP, it will certainly prove to be just as intensive and fun, so good luck to the three for their camp two weeks later!
