FD (B) accreds postponed

Sec 1s...

Your current FD standard is really bad, and if we had accreded you guys, all of you would have failed, Therefore, the FD (B) accreds has been postponed to this Wednesday. All of you better mug for it because if you fail it, the chance of you getting promoted is lowered.

We want to see you putting in more effort, because ultimately, passing your accreds is for your own good.
Make your RIRC life a meaningful journey

Hi guys,

we're having another IPC right here on the blog! This competition is similar to the first, however this time the theme is soccer, as you might be seeing plenty of that in the future ;). If you know the names of the (Year 3/4) sirs in the pictures below, type them out in the comments box and if you answer correctly, you will gain 15 points for your platoon!

Good luck! :D

Training tomorrow (14 July)

Hi guys,

Quick reminder for you guys: remember to wear your new (unless you bought the older version from anyone in B61 :P) unit T-shirt for training tomorrow! Of course, if you do not wear it... you can always try and find out for yourselves ;)

Next thing, those who owe their PN/June camp consent forms or excuses, remember to bring them tomorrow as well. Best that you settle this stuff as soon as possible, so that I don't have to keep chasing you guys. Plus, you can keep a good attendance record by submitting on time :)

Ok c'ya tmr!

June events (PN and camp)

Hello everybody,

Gavin from B62 here :). As you guys should know by now, I'm the guy in charge of attendance and admin-related stuff. Basically this post is to settle attendance related stuff for PN and June camp.

PN (Performance Night):
So, I need the following people to submit their PN consent forms:
B63: Yu Chen, Fangyuan, Jack, Aloysius, Saha, Jared, Benjamin

And these people need to submit excuses:
B63: Nathanael, Dylan, Vincent, Chang Yi
B64: Yu Hang, Melvin, Yijie, Daniel

June camp:
Consent forms:
B63: Yu Chen, Fangyuan, Nathanael
B64: Lin Hong

Excuses: Just Jack from B63 :)

--- Please follow the latest attendance protocol and submit both soft and hard copy evidence, and hard copy excuse letters. This is to be done by the end of July.
--- If you guys don't submit your excuses, then we'll consider that you missed camp invalidly. So please do cooperate and submit your excuses on time.
--- As for consent forms, please them pass to me by the end of training on 24th July (two weeks)
--- I'll remind you guys next training. If you need extra consent forms, please do email me (gavin@merlioncity.net). I can pass you copies for your parents to sign during training.

You can also find this post on the unit FB page. Thanks~

Hey Sec 1s,

If you remember, you guys did your RCK bronze accreds today, and all except 1 passed (if we didn't contact you separately, you passed).

Here are the top scorers:

1st place: Jonathan 24/25
Awarded 30 platoon points

2nd place: Jee Kuen 23/25
Awarded 20 platoon points

3rd place: Yu Cai 22/25
Awarded 10 platoon points

Well done, and good job for getting points for your platoon

Reaccreds will be organised for the CAC Sec 1s, Sec 1 absentees for Wednesday's training, and the person who we have already contacted separately after CAC. So don't worry about not taking the accreds today, and more details will be released further.

Attendance protocol

Hey peeps,

Below is the link for the official attendance protocol (yay)! It contains a list of all valid excuses, evidence needed etc. You can also refer to the document posted by Benjamin on the RIRC unit FB group as an alternative, more simple version (remember... 100% attendance? :P).

Hi all,

This is just a note to all going for NAPFA retest tomorrow (wednesday 3rd July), do remember that ALL of you are still required to come for training immediately after your NAPFA retest. Please report at the SR block foyer (normal reporting area if you all do not know already) and Forster or Gavin Sir will be there to take your attendance. So make sure you go look for them or else there goes you 100% attendance (POOF). If they aren't there, kindly look for any of your kind sirs :) to ask them to direct you to either Forster or Gavin Sir. Thank you.

P.S. Pls try to pass your NAPFA, we know its tough but try your best

RCK stuffies

HEYHEYHEY,

This is for the Sec 1s. You guys are going to have your RCK (B) reaccreds this Wednesday (yay!).
I know some of you have already passed this test, but we have come up with a cooler paper that all of you have to take. It's pretty awesome, and much tougher than the lame HQ papers. Also, the passing rate is 75%, so you guys probably should (YOU MUST!) mug for it.

One more thing, there will be a revision session before the accreds, so if you come prepared for the accreds, then you'll be prepared to bag yourself some platoon points in the stuff we have planned in the revision session.

Just so you know, the platoon with the most number of platoon points at the end of this term will get something epic from us in Term 4, so buck up and don't f*** up :D

SEC 2s THIS IS FOR YOU! DON'T THINK YOU CAN GET OFF EASY, WE GONNA HAVE SOME FUN WITH RCK NEXT TRAINING, SO YOU GUYS BETTER MUG AND SCORE SOME POINTS FOR YOUR PLATOON IN THE RCK LESSON!

-Your beloved B62

SANA course 2013

Hello guys,

Hope you're getting enough rest and recharging after camp :) (don't need to start your holiday homework so fast :P).

Anyway, is anyone interested in taking the SANA course? It's basically a course where you learn more about how Singapore deals with drugs, glue sniffing etc. I personally went for it, and it's definitely quite fun as long as you try to participate :). Plus, you get a badge that you can wear on the RIGHT side of your uniform (in case you don't know, most badges are worn on the left :D)!

Below are the details, as well as a map of the location:

Date:    Wednesday, 12 June 2013

Time:    8.30am to 5.30pm (lunch not provided --> BRING ENOUGH MONEY!!!)
Venue:  2 Sengkang Square, #05-01, Singapore 545025 (Beside Compass Point Shopping Centre) (Nearest MRT station is Sengkang)
Attire:   Mufti (PE shirt with track pants)
Things to bring: Stationery (just bring some paper and  pen)

*** IMPORTANT!!! Whoever's interested please send the following personal details to our batch group: your rank (as of June camp), your HP and your email address. The teachers need to submit who's going, and the above info is needed.

Thanks, and enjoy the rest of June break :D

Lost & Found

Hey guys,

Even though June camp is over, there is still one problem: missing items...

Lin Hong from B64 is missing his orange and black shoe bag, which was gone after outdoor cooking, and he noticed it when returning to get his bathing items. The shoe bag contains a pair of sandals, and we would like to appeal to all Omega peeps as well as everybody else to check if they have accidentally taken that shoe bag back home with them.

Also, Tianxiang from B64 is missing his sleeping bag, and we found an extra sleeping bag of the same brand and size as his, though he is sure that sleeping bag is not his. Therefore, all, Iota and Omega ppl especially, please check if you have accidentally taken the wrong sleeping bag.

If you have, comment below and further instructions will be given

POC filming

Hey Sec 1s and 2s,

You guys have one last chance to film during training, as Wednesday will be your last training. However, we will be doing a POP rehearsal before that, so the sooner you can complete one good rehearsal, the more time you have for the POC video filming. Therefore, make sure you guys know how to do the FD commands that we taught you guys today well. Those who didn't come for training, please find out from your batchmates

Also, please bring your cameras and laptops, and make sure that all of you know what you are going to do during the filming, so that the filming session can be productive

Good luck

POC video filming during training

Hi guys,

As you may have heard, you will be filming as much of your POC video as you can during training on Wednesday. As such, please complete your concept plans and make sure that you know what to do so that time won't be wasted on Wednesday. Also, somebody from each batch will have to bring a camera, and a laptop if you want to transfer and edit the videos on the spot. This is really important for the Sec 4s, so give it your all!

Training 22/4 - Final results of IPC!

Hey cadets,

did you enjoy the mini OA competition we had today? We now bring you the results of this IPC :D.

Firstly, we regret to inform Omegians that your platoon was... disqualified, as your mess tin wasn't meant to be fired. Thus, only Epsilon and Iota will be judged.

The Sec 3s have given points based on the distance of the object thrown as well as the quality/ neatness of the structures. The platoon that won for furthest distance (that object was thrown) is Epsilon!

Here is a picture of the winning catapult:

As their marker was thrown the furthest, Epsilon is awarded 20 points. Keep up the good work guys!

Next, the platoon with the highest quality structure (tripod), was Iota! Here is a picture of their catapult:

Congratulations Iotians, you have earned 10 points for your platoon!

That concludes the platoon activity we had during training today. One more reminder, please remember to bring your mess tins, solid fuel, atomic stove and matches for training THIS wednesday. We have also uploaded photos from training today. Do take a look at them in your spare time :).

Attendance issues

Hi,

Please be reminded that from now on, if you're missing training or any event, and you know some time in advance, email rircbatch62@googlegroups.com with your excuse. There is no need to email the teachers (don't bother them with such mundane issues).

Note that you still have to give us your excuse form and any supporting letters/MCs in hard copy during training.

Newspaper collection CIP (Saturday, 30 March)

(This is a post on behalf of Batch 62)

Hi guys,

Some of you have been briefed on the newspaper and clothing collection CIP this Saturday during training on Wednesday, but just to make things clearer, look through the Powerpoint slides; essential details are all there. This information is the most updated, so if it does not correspond with the consent form, just follow the details in the Powerpoint.

Here's the link to the powerpoint slide:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/wshhia9gfp7ij8n/Newspaper%20Collection%20Briefing%20Slides.pptx

In the Sec 2s' case, since you guys have SFA in the morning, go to Block 109 Bishan Street 12 immediately after your SFA. To arrive there, exit RI through the side gate behind the Admin Block and cross the road via the overhead bridge. Enter the cluster of HDB flats and go to the void deck of Block 109. An IC will be there to take note of your arrival.

Platoon rankings for Term 1

Hi,

For term 1, here are the platoon rankings:

1. Iota
2. Omega
3. Epsilon

So we'll have a celebration for Iota next term.

Platoon points will be reset for camp, so everyone starts on even ground. So give your best for camp (if you're still awake to read this, which you shouldn't be).

-B61

What the, FAC?! We won!

"Walk out of there smiling knowing you did your best"
-Samuel

Just yesterday, in an epic and very manly moment of glory, RIRC reclaimed it's pride in claiming the prize for runners-up to the annual First Aid competition. After years and years of suffering from droughts of FAC trophies (thanks *cough*colin*cough*george), we finally get to be able to feel, smell and lick one again. Hooray.

After months of grueling hard work, pushing through the pits of Hell and suffering through fire and pain, being tortured under a certain someone and tying ring-bandage chains, the FAC management's team's efforts finally paid off, so give them a pat on the back and ask them to stop breaking cold packs if you see them :)

And that is all.

Also note that a GRAAAAAND TOTTAAAAAL OF one year1 and two year2s came for this >compulsory< competition support to witness history in the making.
So yes, we shall be hounding all of you down.

Friday, March 15, 2013

Important things to note

Regarding the pack list for camp:
  • There is no need to use 1.5l coke bottles. Any kind of 1.5l plastic bottle will do.
  • You may bring insect repellent if you want.
  • The whistle is very important. Don't forget to bring it.
  • (For sec 1s especially) You can buy triangular bandages at Guardian or similar pharmacies.
  • (For sec 1s especially) You can buy army ponchos, ziploc bags, and other camping gear at Beach Road. There is a whole row of shops there selling these things.
Regarding FACom support tomorrow:
  • We are sorry for the extremely late posting of the consent forms. The school took forever to get it out. Please download and print it, and bring the signed form with you tomorrow.
  • Fuhua Secondary School is near Chinese Gardens (near Jurong).

Platoon points for today's training

Hi,

Here are the platoon points for today's training:

Epsilon: +35
Iota: +10
Omega: +20

Sec 1s, please remember that the RCK (B) accreds will be on T2W1 Monday. Please take a look at the resources at RIRC Treasure Chest (rirctreasurechest.blogspot.com).

The syllabus tested for the accreds is as follows:

History of Red Cross
H, I, V
Red Cross Emblems
RCY Motto
RCY Promise
RCY Song
Patron of SRCS
Chairman of SRCS
Director of RCY
Objectives of RCY
RCY Ranks and Badges
RCY Training Objectives

The RIRC Treasure Chest also has notes for other subjects. But some may be outdated, so don't assume everything is correct. You can try using the First Aid and Evacuation Guide by our batch. It's quite thorough, and basically just about everything that can be taught in theory is in there.

Here's the link for your convenience: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mfihrl3ahe8rf5w/First%20Aid%20and%20Evacuation%20Guide%20%2829%20Dec%202012%29.docx

Communication with NCOs

Hi,

Some of you sec 1s may be confused or unsure about communicating with NCOs (your sec 4s). For example, if you need to skip training, who should you contact? Or if you're unhappy about how your batchmates are treating you, who should you tell?

Here are the avenues of communication you have:
  1. Facebook - for now, please don't add any NCOs as friends on Facebook. We'll add you into our RIRC Facebook group after March camp (at the end of which you'll be officially initiated into RIRC, and get your unit t-shirts). But after March camp, you can just talk to any of us on Facebook about anything. There's no need to be scared of us - we will not pump you or punish you during trainings for what you say to us on Facebook.
  2. The blog - there's a chatbox on the blog (on the right panel). You can talk about anything you want on the chatbox, but please avoid totally irrelevant topics or spamming, since it will make it difficult for us to find relevant comments. We'll also be posting most important updates and announcements on the blog (such as the dates of special events, camps, etc.).
  3. Email - we have a batch email, rircb61@googlegroups.com. Please send any queries you may have to this email (especially if you don't want your friends or seniors to read what you say). We generally use this email to collate responses for events/competitions and such as well.
  4. Contact list - it's in a link on the right panel (some way down). It contains the contact details of everyone in the unit. Please do not spread this. The information there is private. You can send personal emails to any of us NCOs if you have really private matters to talk about (but really, just use  Facebook, if you have it).
  5. Teachers - if you ever need to contact teachers for any matters, here are their emails:
    1. Mr Tok Wei Sin - weisin.tok@ri.edu.sg
    2. Ms Ruhana Hashim - ruhana.hashim@ri.edu.sg
    3. Ms Wan Yao - yao.wan@ri.edu.sg
    4. Ms Chen Haiqin - haiqin.chen@ri.edu.sg
IMPORTANT: Regarding attendance matters, Samuel (our vice-chairman) will be talking to you about it on another day. There are some protocols to follow with regard to this, because we take attendance very seriously.

Thanks. If you still have any questions, feel free to ask on the chatbox or comment on this post.

Platoon points for Monday (25 Feb) training

Here are the platoon points for the sec 1s' RCK lesson:

Epsilon: +15 points
Iota: +21 points
Omega: +30 points

Platoon points!

Hi,

We've awarded platoon points for the war game we had on Wednesday's training.

Epsilon: +10 points
Iota: +50 points
Omega: +30 points

At the end of the game, Iota had 7 flags, Omega 6 flags, and Epsilon 2 flags.

Sec 1s, if you didn't know what platoon points are, basically they are a scoring system we have for platoons. This scoring system will be used for competitive activities during lessons and especially during camps (which is 18-19 March - refer to an earlier post for more details). At the end of the semester (though this is subject to changes), we will reset platoon points and reward the platoon with the highest platoon points at that point.

Also, look out for the scoreboard at the end of every training - it will reflect the latest platoon rankings.

Hi guys, there is road marshalling duty for all the UGs tomorrow, so please be in school by 6.20am at the main atrium and in your unit/PE tee.

Also, please bring your pledge cards if you still have not passed them up. A police report will be filed if you do not pass it up (a lot of trouble which you wouldn't want to go through).

*This is a joke. I mean the hongbao money thing, not the pledge card. But feel free to donate your money all away!

Please try to keep these two dates free.

We haven't confirmed the dates yet, but barring any unexpected circumstances, camp will be on these two days.

Publicity Booth for February Blood Drive 2013

Hi Year 3s,

Raffles Institution Red Cross is working with Raffles Institution Red Cross Youth Chapters (Year 5-6) to publicise their February Blood Drives.

Essentially, you (Year 3s) will be participating in a publicity event next week to promote the upcoming February Blood Drives in our school and get interested donors to sign up for it, through:

1. Publicity Booth
-With a mini-game designed by the Year 3s
-Cadets will tell interested passersby more about the upcoming February Blood Drives
-There will be a sign up sheet at the booth for interested donors to fill in their details
-Target audience: Year 4s who are currently 16 years old (must have had their birthday already) and Staff of the school (Because only they fit the age requirement)

2. Posters
- Year 3s are also designing posters to be put up in school for the same cause

As such, on Thursday and Friday, 7th and 8th February respectively, Year 3s are required to man the publicity booth at the school canteen (Year 1-4).

The duty roster can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlgwPSuzNJFmdDRYV291U3pUcUM4NG84c3M2cThIT2c&usp=sharing

While manning the booth, you should ask around for interested donors to try out the mini-game and tell them more about the blood drive.

NOTE: You can still have your meals at the booth.

If you find that there are mistakes with the duty roster or have any queries, do send them to our batch group at rircb61@googlegroups.com

Thank you and have a nice day! :)

RC Flag Day (Internal Collection)

Hey guys!

As mentioned previously during training, we will be collecting funds from the school population in support of the Red Cross Flag Day organised by HQ. It will be on this Friday, during PIT, from 0650 to 0750.

Hence, please meet at the main atrium by 0645, where you will be given your tins and briefed on your groupings before being dispatched to your respective classes. Just be in your school uniform and that would suffice.

See you there!

New Admin Regulations (Attendance)

Hi all,

As previously mentioned, in order to keep better track of attendance and monitor on the welfare of you guys, there are new regulations being added onto the current administrative protocol for attendance, so please do pay close attention.

Accepted excuses for Absence from Trainings (non-exhaustive)
  1. Any sort of illness which require you to rest at home
  2. Representing school in participation of competitions
  3. Family issues/Religious activities
  4. Any other pre-fixed activities (>1 month before) which cannot be postponed (e.g. medical appointments, overseas trip, etc)
*As much as possible, pre-fixed activities are to be postponed if they are to clash with training dates.
**Religious activities are to be reported 7 days before, while other pre-fixed activities are to be reported 14 days before.

NOT ACCEPTED
  • Forgot/Don't Know - You are EXPECTED to find out (the next training date) for yourselves
  • ANY other non-medical issues beyond school with the exception of the above mentioned
Accepted forms of Supporting Evidence (non-exhaustive)
  1. Medical Certificates (MC) - ONLY evidence type applicable to support the excuse of Illnesses
  2. Teacher-In-Charge's email to Mr Tok, Ms Wan Yao or Ms Chen Haiqin to excuse you from training for competition purposes
  3. Parental Letters - Cannot be used for 2 consecutive trainings
NOTE: MCs issued on non-training dates are NOT accepted (i.e. if you are sick on Tuesday, you are still expected to report for Wednesday's training). As long as you are in school on a training day, attendance is still compulsory and we will monitor your condition before deciding to send you home or not. Otherwise, light duty (such as refraining from PT) will be provided.

Late Reporting (>30 minutes late)

If you are going to report late for training, you are expected to inform Admin Exec (Amos Sir) 2 days beforehand via email OR sms before the start of training (if you only find out on the day itself). Otherwise, attendance will NOT be counted.

*If any training-clashing activity (e.g. remedial) ends before 1715 (1 hour before the end of training), attendance of that particular training is still required

Failure to abide to regulations

Phase 1: You will be contacted by the Admin Exec on the day itself. If reason provided is unacceptable/insufficient, proceed to Phase 2.
Phase 2: You will be interviewed by either the Vice-Chairperson or the Chairperson on the next training date. If problem persists (or continued absence from the following training), proceed to Phase 3.
Phase 3: Teacher intervention. Necessary disciplinary action to be taken on a case-to-case basis (including the issuing of warning slips).

Please be reminded that these regulations apply to all other non-training compulsory activities (e.g. CCL, Peformance Night, Camps, etc), and that the usual protocol of downloading the excuse form and having it filled and submitted by the next training is to be taken note of as well.

Remember, these are only guidelines to ensure the your presence in each and every training which are essential to your own personal cadet development, and that the NCOs & Teachers have the final decision to the validity of your excuse (even if it is not on the accepted list).

These regulations will take effect as of Today, 16th January 2013. Please submit excuses for Week 1/2 trainings by Week 3 Wednesday, 23rd January 2013.

Thank you and have a great day.

FA and Evacuation guide is up on RIRC treasure chest!

Hi,

We've uploaded the FA and Evacuation guide on the RIRC treasure chest! If you aren't quite sure what this is, it's a very comprehensive guide to First Aid and Evacuation done by our batch. It is inspired (and based on) the old Addendum by B56-B58. While we've retained a lot of the content of the addendum, we hope it'll be easier to read. Hopefully it'll be more useful as revision material after lessons or before accreditations as well. We might even use it in lessons.

Please have a look. It'll be very useful for those who wish to brush up on their theoretical first aid, and it should help with some aspects of practical first aid and evacuation as well.

FACommers, please read through it as well (yes, the FA manual is the official book, but it can't do any harm to read another document to revise your FA and Evacuation as well).

Guess who this is (the person who got injured)? The person who gives the correct answer gets 15 platoon points.

Also, guess when this happened for 10 platoon points.

Only one guess is allowed. Answers with more than one guess will not be considered. You must write your guesses in the comments section.

Only sec 2s are allowed to guess (sec 3s are no longer in platoons any more).
