Hi Sec 1s and 2s, as most of you have probably realised, there is a lot of emphasis on nurturing the platoon spirit between the Sec 1s and 2s in the same platoon. Thus, we have come up with a challenge for the platoons to compete with each other to earn points on this very blog. First to correctly answer the question will win 10 platoon points. There is also another 10 platoon points up for grabs for the most comprehensive answer. The question for this post is: 'What is the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke? Compare the two on the basis of the different symptoms. Also include the treatment for both of the injuries in your answer.' Good luck and may the best platoon win! XOXO
Aloysius - Batch 63 :)
P.S. results after Wednesday, 2 April would not be considered. Thanks! XD

First Aid trainings
Hi guys,
As Saha has mentioned during training today, First Aid trainings will be conducted during most Fridays. Many of you might be wondering what these trainings are for. Basically, these First Aid trainings, formerly known as FAC trainings, are for you guys (sec 1s to sec 3s) to improve your First Aid. We have realised that there is no point holding compulsory First Aid trainings because many of you might skip it anyway.
As such, these First Aid trainings are purely optional.
We will also be releasing the content syllabus for the next few trainings. This is for you guys to see which part of First Aid you might want to improve yourself on. For example, if you feel that you want to improve your First Aid skills specifically on tying the head bandage, then you can look out for that particular training which will train head bandage. However, because you can choose when to come, we require you guys to register using the form (the link is on the blog) so that we are able to plan the manpower to train you guys.
These First Aid trainings will be really useful for you guys as there will be one-to-one guidance where the trainer or instructor can help you personally and give feedback on the spot. First Aid is an important part of Red Cross and also the Leadership Programme which you will be going through when you are Year 3. As such, we hope that you will come down for these trainings (but remember to sign up).
See you on Friday :)

Admin + FACOM :D
Good morning one and all! though you really shouldn't be awake at this hour, Admin has some stuff for y'all to read when you're awake!
1) Updated contact list has been added! Link should lead you to Dropbox file with title including "2014_v1_20Jan".
2) We need volunteers! The FACOM hteam have been training very hard during and outside training, and now for the preliminary round we need casualties! Only requirement is that you have to be under 45kg to sign up. We need at least 3 casualties.
3) On behalf of FACOM team, I'd like to ask for interested cadets to join the FACOM Awareness Category. Do comment below or email me and Kim sirs if you are interested to join!
This year's competition theme is "Everyone a First Aider", and the Awareness team has a maximum of 6 members. Preliminary and final rounds will be held on 1st and 15th March respectively, both Saturdays, on the same dates as that of the scenario component. For the Awareness category, teams have to design a game booth based on the theme with a budget of $100, so it's definitely a good experience i you're willing to try.
Thanks, and I sincerely hope those who are interested approach us!

Another IPC!
Hi all,
we are having another IPC on the blog! This one is either impossible or impossibly easy:
Simply state the number of platoon points each platoon accumulated last year, before the points were reset. If no one answers this by Friday, 31th Jan, 10 points will be deducted from each platoon. :)
Test your luck,
B62.
UPDATE: Since no one has answered, the penalty has been applied and Phoenix has leeched the lost points.

--- If
nobody comes to the booth, kindly invite people walking across to come take a
look
--- Be
polite at all times

sure you conduct the games efficiently

Start of the Year! (IPC)

why not start the year with an IPC? This IPC is worth 50 points (which will be awarded once the platoon points are reset), and this is your task:

Post EOY blog IPC
Hi all,
I know everyone is probably retarding in front of their computers now but if anyone is interested, here is a chance to win A HUGE AMOUNT of points for your platoon!
Ok so:
Form a word using the first letter of the sec 3s names (or surnames.. yes, as seen on the contact list) that refers to a type of brown. (no im not being racist). This word has strictly 5 letters. Type out the names of the sec 3s and spell out the word.
Since solving this would PROBABLY take a crazy amount of time and would be hard even to a genius whoever manages to solve this will receive 50 points! (:O)
Go nuts,

Inter UG games
To all batches,
Inter UG games are round the corner (T4W1 monday), it is a compulsory event, ie like a normal training. Therefore if you are going to be absent, please follow the standard procedures to inform our dear admin exec Gavin. Attendance will be taken, thus you either participate in the sport or support your unit/batch mates who are playing in the games. There are 4 sports this year, Half Marathon, which is a 10km brisk walk done by 7 members. This is only for the year 1s and 2s. For upper sec cadets, there is the standard half marathon which is obviously running. Similarly, 7 members from each UG and they have to cover 10km also. Next there is floorball, soccer and modified handball. The first 2 is self explanatory and modified handball is basically similar to handball except a soft ball (not softball) will be used to throw into a net. The link for signups is here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18FYPwv0MJiEvnVBJ9XXtDi2IAeDrMsQT96S5YhcWR5E/viewform . It is based on a first come first serve basis and we will try to allocate all of you to your first choices. Sign up quick as there are limited spots. Submisson of Sign-ups are due by tuesday, 10/9/2013, 2359 hours. Late Submissions would not be entertained.

Last training for the term
Hi guys,
Hope you had fun in the war game today. Daniel got the ball to the base, which means that Omega is awarded 100 points. Epsilon had 7 deaths, while Iota had 2 deaths, so Iota gets 50 platoon points and Epsilon gets 25 platoon points. Congratulations to whoever was involved.
The water bombs were used to put out the sudden 'fire' that cropped up, therefore no water bombs were involved today. Instead, we saved the day and stopped the fire from spreading (mighty NCOs)!
Have a good September holidays :D

Northbrooks RC Performance Night
Hi all,
below is the invitation from Northbrooks RC:
_________________________________________________________________________________
This year, Northbrooks Red Cross Youth will be holding a Performance Night during the night of our End-of-Year Camp Day 2.
We are pleased and excited to welcome you to our very 1st Performance Night, and we hope that this Performance Night will strengthen our bonds and give us an opportunity to learn more about one another’s cultures. The theme for this year’s Performance Night will be ‘Ah Boys to Men’. We will be inviting three other schools, as well as our very own National Cadets Corps and Boys’ Brigade. At the end of this performance night, you will get to appreciate and experience the true meaning of friendship as there will be games, activities, as well as performances that will help bring us all together as one. After the event, there will be a short break whereby food and beverages will be served. Please give this a deep thought as it will really make a difference if you were to attend our performance night. We really need your participation to make our very first Performance Night a memorable one. Once you have come to a decision whether or not to attend our Performance Night, please reply to this email with the nominal roll of those attending.
Here are the details:
Registration will start at 1900 hrs, and you may enter the school via the main gate.
Each unit will have to come up with a short 5-minute performance that will be performed on the day itself.

Date: 25th October 2013, Friday
Venue: Northbrooks Parade Square
Time: 1900-2130 hrs
Attire: Smart Casual (no revealing attire)
Objective: To foster bond between units and learn more about one another’s cultures
Each unit will have to come up with a short 5-minute performance that will be performed on the day itself.
We hope that you can join us and we look forward to seeing you there.

Update on platoon points + Blog IPC!
Hi all,
if you've been keeping track, you'll realise that all the platoons are all now within 10 points of each other.
Which is why... we will now be holding an IPC right here worth 15 points. That's right, if you win this blog IPC your platoon will become the top platoon :O (unless you're Iota in which case you'll remain on top :D)
Similar to previous blog IPCs, you simply have to answer a question to gain those 15 points. And so, here is the question:
Which Sec 3s name has the most letters? (Including sir/family/middle names)
If you know the answer, please spell out his entire name.
Good luck! :D

Attendance tracking
Yo everybody,
In case you haven't realised, there's a link to a Google document on the blog on the top right tab which says "pages and links". You can check your attendance there.
1) If you can't access it, request for it to be shared
2) If you see red, then that means you were invalidly absent for a certain training.
3) If you feel indignant about this, you can go appeal to our glorious chairman Reeve, who will then reconfirm whether that day's attendance will be valid (yay).

Hi Sec 2s,
All who took the FD (S) accreds today passed, so you can be happy.
To Randy and Yu Chen, even though you assisted in the FD accreds, you guys did not actually do the accreds and therefore you guys are not considered to have passed. Don't be sad though, stay tuned for the next post

You guys obviously have nothing to worry about. Your FD SHO ZAI!!! (go read up on the Silver notes if you kiasu)

GMW :D
Hey guys,
To those going for GMW, we would like to wish you the very best of luck. If you still don't know details like reporting and stuff, refer to one of the previous posts.
Some pro-tips:
FD
1) Prepare your uniform tonight, and not tomorrow morning. It'll probably be quite rush tomorrow morning and your uniform will look like shit, and you won't get as much sleep.
2) Pay attention and don't lose focus during the Uniform Inspection. Go into Sediya and greet the sir when he comes to inspect you, then when he's done, say thank you sir, then go back into Senangdiri.
3) Do not fidget during the accreds, or you are seriously screwed. Even tiny adjustments are noticeable in a squad. If you really need to adjust, do what we do in training, ask for permission. It's better than being an introverted freak and just stand there uncomfortably, because it will affect your concentration.
4) Commanding-wise..Read up on the notes on how to command. There are 3 major components to a command, so make sure when you command you actually follow the theory. Also, command loudly, as loud as you can, and use your diaphragm, not your throat. E.g. You don't hear female commanders with high pitch, they usually sound like fags, because they're trying to use their diaphragm to command.
5) Voice projection: When commanding, lift your head up 45 degrees and open your mouth. Not only do you have to let the instructors hear you, the squad also has to hear you, and expect the squad to be a big one.
6) Controlling the squad: As a commander, you cannot move from your spot. So if you make a mistake, don't say "uhh..ummm", just say semula. Gather your thoughts, then continue. If you have to make the squad march off, do not let them go too far. Once they've taken a few steps, proceed to the next command, so they don't get too far and can't hear you.
Evac
1) Pay attention to Under and Over obstacle, it's quite complicated and contains quite alot of steps
2) Fintan: "Improvised stretcher is easy", so don't have to worry if it looks complicated
3) In the words of Sam Ye: "WILLPOWER". Guess this doesn't need explanation
FA
1) The only new thing is sort of learning how to delegate materials and people in (let's say) a parade. Where do you put First Aiders, Officers, First Aid base, Walkie-Talkies etc. It's actually quite easy, just use common sense and you'll do fine.
2) Since First Aid is so damn easy, just don't fall asleep. Don't be like Shawn, if not you will get pulled out and a instructor will talk to you about responsibility and shit. Don't get into trouble!
Overall, mug your Gold notes and make sure you know everything so you don't have a hard time tomorrow. Don't be late and don't forget to bring your signed Silver monitoring form and empty Gold monitoring form, if not you will be turned away...
