Newspaper Collection
Thank you to everyone who had made the effort to come down for Newspaper Collection yesterday! Mrs Maas is waiting for The Company to get back to us regarding how much we're raised (apparently the collection guy's scales weren't functional...hmmm...) so stay tuned :P
50 more days to accreds deadline and ~2 weeks to EOYs. Time to wake up and begin mugging, hurhurhur.
Excuse Letters
Hi all,
For those who did not turn up for the newspaper collection yesterday, please submit your excuse letters/MCs to the sickbay letter racks by Wednesday. No excuse letter/MC = no attendance = pon. Unless your excuse is really valid then we MIGHT decide to be nice :P tuition/mugging not included.
Alternatively, you can just find Jason sir (92387467) and pass it to him directly.
Thanks and enjoy the rest of the weekend :)

Newspaper Collection Consent Form
Hi all,
If you haven't gotten your consent forms, please download them below:
Get your parent/guardian to sign and bring it tomorrow.
I think your parents wouldn't want to be bothered by a call so just make it easier for them by bringing the form :)
Everyone who is free, please do go for the collection. And it's in the afternoon, so you get to sleep in. Yay!
See you tomorrow!

Beach Story
Batch 57 at the beach
Wah, Sheng Yang sir so tall liao
Had enough of seniors harping on "batch unity"? Have you been pondering about what it's like to be in a batch?
What is a batch anyway?
We've asked ourselves these questions too when we were cadets. There is no definite answer (this isn't Physics RA!), and all of us can only arrive at a conclusion after some reflection and thought...
What is a beach?
This is the spoof that we came up with when we too were faced with the question of being in a batch. Apparently, it seemed that we were rather dismissive of this entire "batch" business. We hope that everyone (Batch 59 and Batch 60) can get together and work as a batch and as a UNIT!
Who's "we" anyway? We are Batch 58, and we have our fair share of new experiences to learn from. We trust that you too will have much to learn from, cherish and remember in your years in RI, and RIRC.
Here's some interesting stuff related to beaches, while we're here o.o
----
While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.
He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”
To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realise that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

More stuff
Hi all,
We forgot to thank two very important groups of people in the previous posts, endless apologies for that ;x
Anyway, thanks to those who were doing first aid duty at the marathon/basketball games, as well as everyone who came down to support. Wouldn't have been possible without you guys :)
Cheers!

UNITY and other matters
Wear your UNIT-TEE with pride!
Once again, THANK YOU to Batch 57 for coming back to participate, as well as everyone in the unit who has come down to participate in and support the half-marathon/basketball competitions :)
Even though this race is over (well so is basketball o.o), there will always be other "races" to run, such as FACOM2009, and the ominous countdown timer to beat (it's in the sidebar) =O
Remember: All cadets promoted in principle must clear the required accreditations for full promotion by November 17, otherwise their "in principle" ranks will be voided.
Let's do it! Once again, good luck for your EOYs. If you need help and advice, you can always email Batch 58 at the email at the top of the sidebar.
BRING IT ON!

Good Job!
Hi all,
Well, probably we did not succeed in today's mission of getting at least top 3. However, let the Sec 3s share our experience and comments of today. Firstly, no matter what, we still tried. That's what matters most. Yes, I know winning is the most important thing but you know something even more important than that?
UNIT-Y. You can go see the other UGs' performance today at the basketball tournament. They were shouting at each other for not catching the ball, not scoring, etc, etc. We as RIRC however, only encouraged. We cheered our hearts out for our players and even if we did something wrong, we just ignored that and went on with the game. We were not biased and just choose Sec 4s and Sec 3s and spam them in the tournament like what the other UGs did. We gave a chance to every Sec 1 who was there, even those who just finished their run in the marathon.
No matter what, we are still the best unit even though we are not that good in fitness. We have not been given opportunities to show to the school our talent in other skills such as FA, Evac and FD. Even if we cannot show them to our school, we can definitely show it to other RC units. That's why let's aim higher. We are more well known as RIRC than a UG. So, let's compete with other RC units and show them who we are! First mission, FACom. So, let's wish the best of luck to the FACommers and hope they become champions.
(Extra note: Due to the recent loss in the marathon or tournament, other UG people might start teasing us and so on. If that happens, just be calm and ignore that person. Those people do not know about the EUA and CSA which we got for 9 years. Those people do not know that we are the champions of Arts Fest. Those people do not know that if not for us, there will be no one to treat his injury. Though we might want to argue against him, we have to accept defeat. So, just be calm and do mug for your EOYs and beat Jeremy sir.)

Show them who we are!
Hi all,
As you all know tomorrow is the inter-UG half marathon and the basketball tournament too. In case the Sec 1s do not know, last year we only came in within the top 6 for the inter-UG half marathon. This year we should at least be in top 1. Surprised? Well, why not? Aren't the other participants humans too? Aren't they from secondary level too? Think about it. Okay, okay, to make it more fair, we should at least be in the top 3. We should own the other UGs in both the half-marathon and the basketball tournament.
Everyone should regret for thinking that RED CROSS was a weak CCA. They should regret throughout their lives on the great mistake they did in thinking that we were useless. SHOW THEM WHO WE ARE and tomorrow the championship is ours.

Hey guys, today's the start of Term 4!
Whoohoo Batch 60's attendance today rockz0red! Keep it up:)
By the way we'll be updating you all soon on the schedule for Term 4, so that the ppl who didn't come today dun have to copy their friends' notes.
Also, we won't be calling you all Sec 1s or Sec 2s anymore, we'll start calling you by batch number to reinforce batch unity. Yay!
Also, hope everything that Hadi sir said today left an impact on you to strive for the best, all-champions is not an impossible task if we work together! Whatever happens in November Camp will decide what happens to RIRCC005 for next year, and this Nov Camp will definitely change you forever! From what we saw from this training, it looks like everyone is going, so mark this date on your calendar and don't let anything block it out: 24-26 November 2009 - the best three days of your life!
Also we're gonna have a "Photo of the Week" posted every week somewhere between Mondays and Wednesday so that our blog won't so "texty". We've added a new section on the left "Categories" section too so you can just click on the link to see the latest photo.
Here's this week's:

Consent from parents to attend Games Day
Hi all,
Apparently, there were some difficulties faced with obtaining the consent form from the school administration. Therefore, the Sec 3s, most probably the PMs would be calling you all to obtain consent from your parents. Please keep your parents around and make sure that you are contactable through your handphone or home phone. To prepare yourself, before the PMs call you, ask your parents whether they allow you to go. If they do not permit, then the Sec 3s will talk to them.
This is the only part which has been changed. Otherwise, the games day tomorrow goes on as usual. Refer to the previous post on the games day for details.
Any questions or queries, post on the tagboard or call Jeremy/Saravanan.

We will still have training, so Sec 1s please report at the same time. This will be the last training until the end of EOYs. For Iota and Epsilon, your week off has to be rescheduled once again as there is only 1 training this week and we do not want to shortchange you.
On Wednesday, 16 Sep 2009, Inter-UG Half Marathon will be held, so those who are interested in running for and gaining glory for our UG please take this holiday to train up =) everybody is required to come down, if not running, to support and encourage, attendance is compulsory. Report as per normal training (i.e. Raja Foyer at 3:30pm.)
That's all the updates we have for Week 1 Events. Any queries regarding photoshoot can be directed to You Sheng, while those with questions regarding Inter-UG Half Marathon, please look for Jeremy.

POC
Hi all,
Tomorrow is the Passing Out Ceremony, and it marks the sad day where the Sec 4s will leave our unit. Cry if u want to, but one thing for sure is that we will all miss them =(
Below are the details
Parade Rehearsal
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Venue: Parade Square
Attire: PE Attire (full-dress rehearsal will be after 3, so please get ready your uniform for changing)
POP
Time:4pm - 4.30pm
Venue: Parade Square
Attire: RC Uniform
POC
Time: 4.30pm - 7pm (Dinner will be provided, you can stay for it if you want)
Venue: AVT
Attire: RC Uniform
For those without the full RC Uniform, just bring whatever you have, we will be giving out your missing uniform parts to you. For those that have parents coming, they can park their car at the school carpark.
If you have Merit CCA clashing with any of the time slots, try to give it a miss as this event will be the last farewell for our dear Sec 4s, so we really need as many people as possible to make it a success.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to post on the tagboard.
See you there :)

Feedback of OAIPC
Hi all,
Hope you all enjoyed today's IPC. Could see that some of you all could become OA specialists. However, still, there are some of you who have to buck up on your OA skills... We understand that you all have some comments about the IPC. Please share them with your platoon mentors (during platoon time probably) so that the Sec 3s get feedback on how to improve on IPCs. Otherwise, good job and keep it up!
