DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 8
I believe you have heard of S**t Kingz from DVOTW 6. So here is their winning performance at Bodyrock 2010.
Some things i wan to draw your attention to.
1. Use of props. U haven been really seeing a lot of props used in the prev DVOTW so here is an example of how u can use a hankerchief as part of the dance. Do note that props can be rili useful but u nid to be rili confortable with it before even using it for a dance.
2. Ending. The ending firstly is dramatic. Endings leave the final impression so it is gd to hav a creative yet impactful ending. Secondly, even at the drama part they keep their syncronisation. It is a dance after all, so it wil look nice will all the performers are coordinated.
Well, keep loking out for more vids from S**t Kingz. :P

National First-Aid Competition
The National First-Aid Competition just ended yesterday
We have achieved:
Finalist in the Management Category
1st in Awareness Category
Great job to the FACommers and Awareness Cat ppl ! I know your holidays are pretty occupied with all these stuff, but we appreciate the time and effort you guys put in.
Here is our First-Aid Awareness booth. Lots of effort (and money :P) put in for the board game. FIY, they are supposed to raise the awareness on the importance of First-Aid to the public and our unit did this mainly through the games and interactive elements.
For our management team, although we didn't manage to get into the top three positions, it is commendable for them to perform under such conditions. (honestly, the scenario and the injuries took me by surprise) There is always room for improvement and we will work towards it next year in FACom!
Nevertheless, thx for coming down to support our fellow unit mates for the competition. For Yr 1s, i hope this is an eye-opener, as u can see how a first-aid team should manage a scenario (e.g. firedrill). Next year, it will be your turn, do not miss it.
See you back in school, trng as usual :P
Bring it on!

free speech &c.
the views posted by the user 'david' on the unichannel tagboard, amongst others, are in no way representative of the Raffles Institution Red Cross unit. These views are neither endorsed by this unit nor reflect the opinions held by the rest of the members of the unit.
david has been informed of the consequences of his actions; however, we are in no position and have no right to control or restrict what he chooses to post, of his own volition, on various sites online. his views may be offensive, or just plain irritating - but they are his nonetheless, and thus have a right to be expressed. on the other hand, we don't have to listen to them.
we understand that people may be offended by these views, and apologise to those who may have been. however, what we cannot and will not do is to take responsibility for, or restrict and control, what he elects to post online. in this digital sphere, he is (as are all of us) acting as a free agent and expressing his own opinions, as is his right to do so.
these opinions are his and his alone, and it is not within our power to suppress or restrict them. we can only advise and guide him - whether he chooses to take our advice is entire up to him, as it is for others to take notice of and react to the comments he has posted online. as again, his comments are in no way representative of the rafflesian community at large.
we appreciate your understanding in this matter.
rirc/16.3.2011
---
we do not censor.
what you choose to say outside of training is entirely up to you. we believe in the right to free speech; to the freedom of expression.
all we can do is to remind you of the possible consequences of your actions. whether you choose to listen, or not, is another matter entirely. similarly, whether you want to take notice of and react to what others post online is, of course, up to you to decide.
of course, if you elect to post something that is false, slanderous or a misrepresentation of our views or positions, then we will take action by providing the true side of the story, exposing your lies for what they are.
but opinions themselves are another matter. we cannot and will not control them. it is up to you to recognise and acknowledge the ramifications of what you want to say, and then decide if it's really worth saying or not.
we can only help you understand and appreciate the consequences of your words and actions. ultimately, it still remains your choice to do whatever you may want to do. take note that once something goes online, it's pretty hard to take back.
freedom of speech is a universal right.
so is the right to ignore people who are making themselves out to be idiots online.
I hope this makes things clear.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 5
Guess what this post is all about (lol)! Be introduced to Choreo Cookies, a combination of efforts from awesome choreographers Keone Madrid and Mariel Martin (both are engaged to each other!). The word 'cookies' may seem soft for a dance crew, but it's the first word that describes them best. They were placed second in this particular competition, Bodyrock 2010, only to be beaten by a 4-man crew (more about them next time). Okay, enough. Time for the video!
It's quite long, but it did have our attention the whole time. March camp is approaching at an amazing speed. Get your platoon flags ready!
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Good News
We have good news!!
FACom is in the finals, for both the categories. We will be competing with many other powerhouses on the 19th March (Sat) @ City Square Mall. Details will be released at a later date.
This is the first year FAC finals is held in public. So let's wish the FACommers all our support during the actual competition day.
Good luck with your trngs FACommers :P
March Camp Briefing Slides
Here are the March Camp Briefing Slides.
On a side note, the latest contact list for this year is up! (On the sidebar). The password should be very obvious; if not just come email us/find us after training privately to get the password. This is to prevent all our contact details from falling in the hands of other people...so don't say it on the comment box.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 4 + FACOM
Episode 4 of Dance Video of the Week has arrived! Remember Kyle Hanagami? Here's a video of another choreography by him.
Brilliant right? Notice that this choreography is actually performed on stage and not in a dance studio, and by a dance crew. Well you can categorize dances into two groups: those that are taught in a studio, and those that actually make it on stage. But also, there can be those that belong to both.
Also, tomorrow's gonna be a very special day, so this post will be extended a bit more.
2009...
2010...

2011: ?
Tomorrow will be the FIRST AID COMPETITION 2011 PRELIMS!
Tomorrow will be when a part of history will be made.
Tomorrow is when it will all be decided.
Here's wishing the best of luck for the FACom team! Bring glory to the unit! And go to bed before 11pm!
BRING IT ON!

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 3
Dance Video of the Week 3 is here! A little late though, because someone was caught up with chionging something last night *ahem*. The video below shows one of the best routines of Lyle Beniga, who is one of the best choreographers, as well as one who moves very smoothly.
Oh, and in case you didn't know, some famous K-pop dance routines are choreographed by him with another guy called Shaun Evaristo (another great choreographer), namely Wedding Dress and Where U At (both by Taeyang).
And here's wishing the best of luck to the sec 2s who will be taking their Footdrill Bronze accreditations this Monday!

Evacuation Bronze Reaccreds
Attention from the following people:
Welcome Batch 62
Let's officially welcome Batch 62 to the unit. *claps*
To all Batch 62 cadets, CCA will be a whole new experience for you guys. New subjects, new learning points, new friends and a new family. Your batch will stick with you for the next 4 years here, so learn to work well with them and the experience will be an enriching one. Honestly, you guys did a great job in displaying unity as a batch in today's games, helping each other regardless of platoons, so great job!
To the rest of the seniors, I know that u may not have the chance to officially meet them, but do try to talk to them whenever possible (before trng, dismissal etc). Get to know their names and platoons. For Batch 61, you will get to interact with many of them in your respective platoons. Take the chance to make new friends too, as this will be your platoon for the rest of this year.
On the side note, each platoon will have to create a new platoon flag for March Camp. Do start designing or preparing soon. Details regarding the flag and the Camp will be released at a later date, so stay tuned.
New platoons, new identity; new batch, new family. :P

Also, this is another reminder that the Gold Modular Workshops will take place tomorrow (see post below). Have fun!

From today onwards, we will be posting a dance video every week (as the title says), usually on every friday (one exception being today).
Welcome to the very first episode! You don't have to dance, or like dance to watch these videos because they are just plain cool and worth your time. Enjoy!
Now, Kyle Hanagami will be a name that will come up quite often when you talk about choreography. Just watch the video and you'll understand.

Clarifications
there is no meeting tomorrow, contrary to the previous post. Sorry for the confusion!
Welcome
To all cadets of RIRC,
Hope it’s not too late to wish all of you a very Happy 2011 and welcome back to school!
2011 will be yet another exciting year for all of us with different levels going through different experiences. I hope the sec 2s are getting more familiar with school and more matured especially in knowing what’s out there, how the next few years of life in school will unfold. I hope you will guide the new cadets coming in soon and be good examples to them, along with the rest of the seniors. As for the sec 3s, I hope you will have (or had, depending on when you read this post) a good time in OBS and get to know your new classmates better. It will be a different workload this year with so many more responsibilities and new leadership opportunities to try. As for the sec 4s, this is the year to make every day count before embarking on a new world in year 5-6. This is also the year you become ‘full-pledged’ leaders and shall be guiding the sec 3s to be even better leaders of the future. You need to work hard together sharing the same vision, bringing RIRC to greater heights and doing everything for the unit, not just for your own gain. As mentioned during Principal’s assembly, nobody is the center of the universe. We are all a part of something bigger. We have to work together and always have others in mind.
My wish this year is that everyone plays their part, and to be responsible. I cannot expect all the cadets in RIRC to be an A star cadet meaning, to never miss a single training the whole year, join all competitions, to achieve the highest of ranks, to participate in NDP, SYF, to volunteer in anything and everything or to do so many things. Of course, that will be ideal but really, just the basic responsibility of being a cadet in the unit. Think about it. What is this basic responsibility? I would like to hear your responses soon when we meet.
This Wednesday will be our first meet-up but without the sec 1s and 3s. After that we have the Raffles Trail on Friday, 7th March from 2-530pm and training to resume next Monday onwards.
Looking forward to a good 2011 with all of you. The best of luck! J
Regards,
Ms Ruhana

A Whole New Year
Wondering if any of you guys actually look forward to next year.
Year 3s you're gonna have new classmates and all, and it will be a whole new learning experience for you in LP (in case you dunno, its Leadership Programme). Not trying to scare you guys, but things are gonna become really hectic, more workload, more subjects, more responsibility, whether during training or not. Before they sky comes crashing down on you, please enjoy the rest of the hols and rest well. Enjoy the time you have in OBS too :)
Year 2s, although you will still be in the same class, it is now you responsibility to look of the NEW batch of Year 1s coming in your platoons. New faces, new platoon members, new challenges. I hope you look forward to these new leadership opportunities.
3 more hours to a new year, 3 more days a new school term, 3 more months a new March holidays. Treasure the present and embrace the future
Happy New Year to all :P

Trainings till EOYs
There has been some confusion about whether there is training next week, so hopefully this post will clear all the doubts.
There will not be any training from now on, until end of EOYs. Of course, you still have to go for the POP training next week. It is compulsory for everyone.
The details for this training is here:
Date: Wednesday, 15th Spetember
Time: 3.30pm to about 5.30-6pm
Attire: PE
We hope that you guys will take this rehearsal seriously. The parade will after all be for our Sec 4s, who have done so much for the unit. It is only right that we show our appreciation, right?
There is quite a number of you that have not come for a single training, so we expect these people to all be there on Wednesday. After all, it is normal training hours, so you guys should not have any excuse for not coming.
Other than these people, we also want to see that everyone else will be present.
We hope to see all of you there.

POP Training 2
Hi all,
As you know, the turnout for the parade rehearsal on thursday was terrible. Very few people actually turned up. Tomorrow there will be another training. It will last from 9am to 5pm. If you guys perform well, we could end early. So please take this seriously. Anyone who doesn't turn up without a valid excuse will have his promotion delayed. If you have a remedial class, inform us of the time and come right after the class ends. If you skip tomorrows training, you will still have to come for another one. So the choice is yours. See you guys at the Parade Square tomorrow at 9am.
Thank You

POP Training Today
Last training, we told you that there was POP training this afternoon. I couldn't turn up myself to help as I had RA Class and Parody Rehearsals which stretched till 7pm. However, the Sec 3s there told me that only about 10 people came. Yes, I have the names. To these people, thank you. I mean it.
I know the majority who did not turn up had valid reasons for not coming. Its okay. Just be sure to turn up on next Monday's one, its really important.
However, for those few of you who decided not to go for no reason at all, think about it. Is this the kind of impression you want to give to the Sec 4s? The Sec 3s? The Sec 1s/2s? Or even your batch mates?
If most of us turned up for one training, it could really be ONE training. We could explain all the steps to you, practice a couple of times, and... wait. That's all. You could go home right after that. However, if we have attendances like 10 people, nothing can be done and we might have to reschedule training after training.
So yes, by not coming, you do not only inconvenience yourself by not knowing what to do, you push others down by making them have to come for the trainings you aren't at and not using their time to the max there. And remember, all it takes is ONE jarring mistake by ONE person in a squad to mess everything up.
So please, help yourself, help your batch, help the unit. Please try your best to turn up for this Monday's training. The PMs will be calling you to confirm your attendance.
-Han Sheng
P.S. I believe Vatsal has called for the Sec 1 POC video filming to be tomorrow. Sec 1s, please turn up for it.
P.P.S. Also, Sec 1s, 2s, please take note that as your promotions will not be carried out during POC, you do not need to invite your parents down.
P.P.S. Same thing goes for FACOM support. If you're free, just come down to support our FACOMers. They have trained everyday for the past 3 weeks and everyone would agree with me that they more than deserve our support. Seriously, your presence does make a difference.
