UIP and RCYC

UIP (Unit Instructor's Programme) and RCYC (Red Cross Youth Challenge) are coming!! The dates are as follows:

Details are not out yet, but if you are interested in going for either of these two, please email the Batch 60 egroup once again (If you don't know the email look to the right! :P)
These two programmes have proven to be very enriching so far for those who have gone for it, and I'm sure some of the sec2s have been waiting to go for this :P It is also a very good way to interact with members from other RCY units, so gogogo :) If you don't believe ask the lanyard holders from last year: Ching Wai and Gabriel :D
Oh btw, today is the last day to indicate your interest for Gold Modular Workshops and Accreds! Do remember that you can only go for one accreds this time round, so choose wisely :D Also, from past experience to go for UIP you'll definitely need a Gold in the subject you are interested in, so we encourage all of you to go for it.

Gold Modular Workshops/Accreds
Hi Sec2s!
For FD, OA and Evac (Gold), you'll have to attend both the workshop and the accreditation.
For RCK (Gold), you only need to go for the accreditation on the 29th.
There is also a First Aid workshop open to all interested participants on the 22nd. There is no accreditation for First Aid and this workshop does NOT take the place of SFA.
edit: the last time I checked, one can't be in 2 places at the same time - if it isn't obvious already you can only go for one (1) workshop on the 22nd and one (1) accreditation on the 29th.
All workshops and accreditations will be held from 9am to 5.30pm at the Red Cross Campsite on both days, so if you sign up do make sure that you can make it down for the relevant dates. You cannot leave early so if you have something on please either reschedule it or not sign up this round.
Details of Workshops and Accreditations
Footdrill: Attire - Full Red Cross Uniform for both days. Bring your stationery, 1.5l labelled water bottle, a set of FD (G) notes - download from the RCY website - and a blank FD (G) record sheet on the 22nd.
Evacuation: Attire - Mufti (PE shirt + dark blue or black track pants) for both days. Bring your stationery, 1.5l labelled water bottle, a set of Evac (G) notes - download from RCY website as well, newspaper and a blank Evac (G) record sheet.
OA: Attire - Mufti (PE shirt + dark blue or black track pants) for both days. Bring your stationery, 1.5l labelled water bottle, a set of OA (G) notes - download from RCY website, a metal fork and spoon and a blank OA (G) record sheet.
RCK (Accred only on 29th; no workshop): Attire - Full RC Uniform. Accreditation will be a 10 minute presentation on a set topic that has to be prepared before the accreditation. the passing of an era -
and the beginning of another:

Yesterday marked the end of Batch 59's year in charge of the unit - and what a year it has been.
This batch came in when I was in Sec 3 - so I only got to know them for less than half a year before my batch took over in late 2008.
I didn't have much of an impression of them back then - they were (or as I remember) a quiet bunch, generally quite well-behaved and much better than their seniors. So I didn't quite know what to expect the next year when my batch was tasked with running things for them.
So in 2009 things turned out quite well - I took their batch for FA for what was effectively 2 entire terms, and they were really an engaging, lively group of people who paid attention and always seemed eager to learn (a bit like batch 62 really but with a bit more discipline). Thus at my POC - which seemed like only a few months ago - I left the unit rather reluctantly.
And then I came back.
So in 2010 I took this batch again for the entire year - I tried to teach them what it meant to lead the unit; we worked together on innumerable tasks and projects and I pushed them way too hard, expected too much from them - but they always delivered. This batch stuck together through everything we put them through - the multiple recce trips for 6Pak last year, the constant rewriting and refining of activities - all for the sake of the unit. Never once did they give up; they always sought to work together and to give their best for the unit - and it is this spirit that has characterised their entire journey as leaders of this unit, and what I'll always remember them for.
Batch 59 thus really exemplified what it meant to be a batch - a group of unique individuals each with their own strengths and personalities coming and working together for a common goal. It's thus with a twinge of sadness that I'm seeing them leave - but at the same time I'm happy for all that they've accomplished in their years here. 2010/11 may have seemed unfairly short, but it has left with us many great memories of this batch - the various camps they've run, PN, FDCOM and countless others. But all good things must come to an end eventually - that's the way things go.
Thus as b59 moves on and as b60 steps up to fill some very big shoes left for them, I'd once again like to thank this batch for everything they've done for the unit; for the unforgettable memories they've left us, and left me in my 2 years as a VI here; and for everything that they've taught us - the value of teamwork, of determination, and for showing us what it really meant to lead the unit. Thanks for being a truly exceptional batch.

'Twas the End
'Twas the end of POC, the closing of one chapter of our seniors' lives. Well, good luck to them, and their future endeavours.
POC also marked the takeover of a group of more junior seniors, and the beginning of a new cycle of events and joy and whatnot.
So let us be filled with vigour, and take on the challenge of the new age!

The Passing Out Ceremony begins at 630pm in the AVT and should end by 830pm. Again you'll need to be in your full Red Cross Uniform for the thing. If you don't have your full uniform for whatever reason (if you don't have badges it's alright) please be attired in school uniform with tie. Refreshments / food will be provided after the thing.
Tomorrow's the Sec4s' last day in the unit, and it's also a send-off for them after their 4 years of service to Red Cross so do show up to show your appreciation for everything they've done!

Post Inter-UG Games
Hi guys!
As they always say, results don't always matter! What matters is the participation and the experience, and as you can see we are different from the other UGs in this light. Whereas in other UGs may send a team made up entirely of seniors, in RC everyone including the juniors get a chance to participate in this annual inter-UG competition.
Of course, this does not mean we do not have talent - we may be lacking in terms for physical strength (for now!) but we can show everyone else that even in the face of defeat we do our best and strive for excellence. Sometimes instead of using your muscles you can use your brainpower too :D
Speaking of muscles, a round of applause for all the marathon runners this afternoon!! The half marathon is by far the most physically demanding of the sports played out today, so have a good rest tonight!
For those who left early, here are the results for your information:

Basketball- 4th (sorry thought it was 5th earlier)

Once again, don't have discouraged by this...in fact this is already a very commendable result! I witnessed some moments where foul play might have happened and could have affected the results, but forget about that for now. As Rafflesians we play fairly and not attempt to win by foul means, whatever the situation.
We have no doubt improved from last year, as this time we only have two sports in which we got last. This shows that we are growing into a ever more formidable force compared to last time when we have no more than 2 sports getting a non-last placing. We are ever closer to reaching the goal of getting a top 3 position, and we came close I must say.
I was highly encouraged when our soccer team went off to a good start with a first match win and a second match draw. Learn from your mistakes, and worth noting is that our soccer team is comprised mostly of juniors, which means that you guys can play again (with the same team maybe) next year! Jiayou guys...just keep improving and I'm sure next year we will clinch at least the top 2 for soccer.
Good job to all who played their hearts out for RIRC. There's always next year, and then we will show everyone how we have learnt from our mistakes and how capable we are in these sports.
For now rest well everybody! This is technically the last training before EOYs, and thus there will be standdown from now till after EOYs. Go mugmugmugmugmug :P

All the best, encourage and cheer on others while they are playing (or running for the marathon runners), and most importantly have fun!! xD

DVTOW 30: Season Finale
Welcome to the last episode of DVOTW. This week, we will be featuring a new dance crew for the first time (and probably the last). It is the Quick Crew. Enjoy.
Enough of the analysis, you probably know quite a fair bit.
In this season of DVOTW, we hope we have opened your eyes, mind and heart to a performing arts form called Dance. You yourself have tried your hands and legs at dance too during PN. As school reopens, all the best in your exams and stay tune for the next season of DVOTW (if there is another one…)
From the backstage, your team of producers working to make RIRC a success wants to say……
CCA is a place to try things you can’t in the constraint of a classroom, and dance is just one out of many. For me, it has been a fruitful experience picking up dance as an interest, so to all of you, keep breaking new ground and do something new. That is how you can be someone new after 4 years in RIRC :P

In RIRC, you'll go through a whole lot of experiences that can't be had in the classroom, nor (may I say) other CCAs. You'll learn more about yourself, more about other people and more about life as a whole, especially of the less fortunate. I'll never forget my experience in this CCA, the times i've shared with others and the lessons I will take away when I leave. I hope you will too. Make good use of your time here, bring glory to the unit and make yourself a better person. All the best!

Hey, it isn't just a CCA kays :) its a passion. Red Cross has been my home, my family. Not just another fond memory but a life experience as well. There are so many lessons and good memories from RIRC that... I can't say all of it here :) but all of which, you can have too. Put in the effort, try smthing new like Zheng Wei and make use of your time in RIRC wisely; you'll get something so valuable (be it a gf like big boss down there) that you'll never regret :) You all can do it too! =)

Red Cross is where you explore new stuff like first aid and footdrill you wouldn't do anywhere else, meet new friends (like those of the opposite gender *ahem* deo *ahem*), bond with your batch and unit, and just have fun. In RIRC, you'll go through a whole lot of experiences that can't be had in the classroom, nor (may I say) other CCAs. You'll learn more about yourself, more about other people and more about life as a whole, especially of the less fortunate. I'll never forget my experience in this CCA, the times i've shared with others and the lessons I will take away when I leave. I hope you will too. Make good use of your time here, bring glory to the unit and make yourself a better person. All the best!

DVOTW 29
Hey all,
Sorry for the delayed telecast of DVOTW due to FDCom :P Today we are featuring Tony Tran and his epic freestyle.
I guess you all know wad freestyle is from DVTOW 26. So you can try freestyling at home or anywhere to feel comfortable with. It doesn't take much, just allow your body to follow the music.
Try to observe how the moves and steps in Tony's freestyle followed the music e.g. the soft lyrics, and strong drum beats and random little thingies hidden within the music. Tads how freestyle is done.
Oh and btw, the throwing of shoes at the end doesn't mean anything negative (unlike the shoe throwing at George Bush incident)
Anyways, happy holidays (if you have any to speak of :P)

FDC 2011 : NyanCom Edition
Hi all,
This year's FDCom has several 'firsts'.
To start off, it is the first time we are having a Sec 1 participating in the competition. A round off applause for Kelvinder for all his effort to catch up with the more experienced and proficient Sec 3s and 4s. He was really great during the competition.
For the prelims, we got South District 3rd placing as well as....... BEST NATIONAL COMMANDER!!!!!!!! Basically, this is the first time it was awarded to an RI commander. Our dear Soe Lwin sir was awarded this amongst the 32 other commanders from other units in this competition. AWESUM!!!!
For the finals, it was a National 2nd. So far, this is the highest achievement we have gotten for the recent 5 years of FDCom.
I think the FDcommers all deserve big round of applause and a good rest after all the 10 hours of neck-breaking, feet-cracking and brain-wrecking experience. Good job guys!!!
So this FDCom concludes our series of competitions this year. Next year, will be a greater and more groundbreaking experience for competitions. So all the best for next year!!!!

DVOTW 28
Hi all once again,
I believe most of u hav heard enuf 'Tan' puns from fb, SMSes, youtube etc, so I didn't bother searching for a choreographer with a Tan in his name.
We are featuring Prepix Crew this week. This is there promotional video, something like they are recruiting.
Intersting isnt it? A 360 degrees dance. I actually wonder how skillful the cameraman is hahas. And it is not easy to choreograph a dance to cater to all angles :P
the 360 degrees thingy reminds me of last year's Teacher's Day Celebration. The stage is really 360 with the audience all around. Here's wishing our dear teachers and YOs a great Happy Teacher's Day for all their effort they've put in.
So stay tuned for another episode of DVOTW and happy elections day as well lol.

IPC FA/Evac
Come prepared. Sec 1s who have not passed Evac (B), you will be accreded on that day. Good luck! :)
FD Tips
Hey all! I believe that most of you cadets know how to do some basic marching commands already ~
Basically, there are a few errors that each and every one of you should be aware of:
Dressing not proper
Arm swings not in coordination
Legs not 90 degrees
Wheeling not executed properly - person pivoting moves a lot, back ranks cannot catch up with front rank
Arms flaying when executing turns in static drill
So here are a few tips:
First the foundations - arms locked, legs 90 degrees, head tilted up with an angle of elevation of 45 degrees.
While marching, shift your eyes left and right to see whether you are in time with the person next to you.
While marching on the spot, legs should ALSO be raised to 90 degrees and your feet should be pointing down (Land on the balls of your feet. If you don't know what that is, go look it up in the wiki or ask a friendly batchmate) to minimalise noise made and if you can do it properly, you won't be so tired. Also, look up with an angle of elevation of 45 degrees and stare HARD at a non-moving spot. This way, you won't move.
SLOW DOWN after wheeling for the back ranks to catch up
You don't need to jerk your arms up and look like a robot, but do it FAST while still in time with others of course.
Why should you do FD properly? This is because you will be involved in MANY parades. And when you mess up in a parade, it is VERY obvious because EVERYONE around you will be executing perfect drills.
And that's it. Just follow these tips, put in your 100 percent effort and you will be eligible for FDC in no time!
By the way, don't let me catch any of you fidgeting...

DVOTW 27
Hey ppl,
Welcome back to DVTOW 27!!!! MINDSville visit just concluded today, so jus relax from all the hard work you have put in and enjoy the video. We are featuring KINJAZ (kinda ninjas)this week. For anime fans, u may be reminded of naruto :P
Apart from sick skills, what really struck me was how they converted ninja fighting into a synchronised dance. If u watch the moves, some has references to things like sneak attacks, the katana, ninja-dash-past-and-you-die-a-few-moments-later thingy.
There are also cool freestyles / solo section but the interesting parts come when the background people for doing smth. You notice that the freestyler and backgrnd ppl actually follow different parts of the music. Something u can consider.
Well, HMT prelims in 6 days time for Sec 4s. All the best dudes and happy mugging (hmm wad is there to mug for HMT?)

Hi everyone!
I hope that everyone's been having fruitful CiPs thus far, and that everyone has benefited in some way from their little trip! Anyways, here's just another video to pass the time with :D
Anyways, since National Day was over, I was hunting for a red shirt guy to post hurhur. So anyways here you go. And FYI this guy is a guy we've never posted before. And this is all freestyle! (Its like your impromptu speech) He's just following the music as he listens to it! (cool right. now if there was a subject called dance in RI instead of Oral Communication maybe this would be part of your graded component XD). And OMFS (Oh My Flying Sky) next week is week 8! That means that our exams are coming soon ._.

SAMH Indemnity Letters
Hi guys,
George should have sent out the consent forms for SAMH yesterday by email to everyone. However, all the SAMH indemnity letters are being kept in school, and hence I cannot scan it and send everyone a soft copy. Hence, could everyone going to any of the SAMH centres meet me at 1.50pm tomorrow at the SR Block Foyer to collect the indemnity letters from me? This is very important.

National Day Speech

HAPPY 46th NATIONAL DAY !!!!!!
This long hols, take the time to chill, relax, and really rest. Term 3 is gonna end soon, and it has been a busy term for all of you guys, especially, the sec3s who are running trngs, CAC participants and FDCom squad members.
While wishing Singapore a Happy Bdae, let's all also wish Fintan a Happy Bdae too. HAHA, so lucky, same day as National Day. :P
For those who think National day hols is really bored, jus catch up on whatever you have to catch up, like work, reading, TV Drama Series, Dance Videos(yes altho PN and CAC are over, you can still look at DVOTW and go 'wow'), or simply rest. I noe many of u sleep very late at night and are dying, so revive yrself. If really hav nothing to do, i guess you have to go "reflect on what Singapore has given you", a suggestion by our Principal.

DVOTW ∞+1 (AKA 25)
Hi Everyone,
To start off, we hope you had an enlightening experience today at the institution of Mental Health (no not as patients but as volunteers -.-). Regardless of whether you played chinese chess, monopoly, folded origami, solved puzzles, spun the bingo wheel or pulled UNO stacko blocks out of the tower with them, (or just used our common superpower, eyepower) I'm sure we have made their otherwise would be ordinary Saturday morning pretty fun-filled!

Hi all
Those who signed up for the CIP at Oasis Day Centre (Vijay, Fintan, Sakthivel, Allan, Daniel, Wei Yang, Qi Jing, Gabriel, Vatsal, Hui Jun and Li Hong) need to meet Mrs Maas at 11.00 am on Monday (8 August 2011) after National Day Celebrations outside Staff Room 2.

Hey hey hey!
Guess what's here!
Batch 62! The performance you guys put up was great for a first one. The choreography was awesome! Remain invincible, dudes!
The sec 2s were the cool dudes (with the exception of Samuel). Now you all know what terrible thing he did, watch it to find out lol, you'll know in a half a minute. You all showed a lot of emotion in the dance, and great improvisation there!

Welcome back to DVOTW 24: post-CAC edition. This week's video will feature a choreography by Kyle Hanagami on the song "Save Your Goodbye" which is one of the songs used in CAC Dance.
One nice thing to take note is how they hit all the beats in the song, which is also called sense of rhythm. the beats in the music is not just the standard "12345678" but also the lyrics, melody, instrumental etc.
Btw, the singer for the song is Mike Posner, who has a female element in his voice. Yes, he is a man. His name is "Mike" duh. If u r curious, u can go search for some of his other songs heehee :P

Hey guys,
Welcome to a Special Edition of DVOTW! Special because it's...well...late. No, we haven't forgotten about the PN videos yet. They still need some time. Alright, if you haven't heard of Tony Transformer from Kaba Modern, here he is. He's known for his sick isolations and creativity. Just take a look at this video. You won't get tired of just one view, I promise.
Remember, when you thought you've hit a dead end when choreographing, look for the hidden possibilities. There are almost infinite ways to continue a move.
Oh, and evac silver accreds are just tomorrow. Good luck!

For those of you who took the evac bronze practical accreditations today...

For those who passed, there's still theory and radio comm (awwww) so it's not time for celebration yet. And they will come quite soon. In fact, all of you listed above have to come down this Friday (15 July) for the evac bronze theory paper test. Meet at the Rajaratnam Block Foyer at 1.30pm sharp. It will be pretty quick if you pass on the first try, so do be punctual. For those who failed, you still have to come for the test, and don't be demoralised; it's just because you happened to not revise on the evac methods, so do yourself a favour and spend some time reading through your notes.
Also, those who have already passed evac bronze, your evac silver accreds will continue/start next Monday's training, so be prepared! After that you can proceed to take evac gold at the campsite when the Gold Modular Accreditations are here! How sweet is that?

On a side note, for those going for yeoman duty, do remember to wear your unit tee with pe shorts for tomorrow.

DVOTW 22
Yo dudes!
Your dance videos are still in the process of being processed, so meanwhile, enjoy a dance video of our own unit from 3 years ago! That was when there existed a competition named Arts Festival (also formerly known as Talentime).
It's true that it cannot be compared to dances choreographed by professionals who do nothing but dance all day, everyday, but as a sec 1, I was thoroughly impressed (so much that I wanted to watch it again and again and even made the promise to join the dance cat when I turn sec 3). I won't try to point out any elements here (cos I'm not someone who enjoys doing that). So just try to appreciate this dance as a whole piece.
This is for dudes who think choreographing and performing a decent piece for PN was impossible. And here's wishing luck to ourselves that we'll enter the finals for all 3 categories of CAC!

DVOTW 21
Hi all,
U hav probably seen storyline choreographies, but we did not focus too much on it. simply, u r telling a story thru dance :P
While watching, see if u can pick out the msg from the dance
Some interesting things to note:
the use of props is amazing: notice how they manipulated the telephone wire. they entangle themselves and then untangle again IN THE SAME MANNER, AT THE SAME TIME!!
Another cool thing is how the two lead characters, Keone and Mari do not physically contact each other throughout the dance!! (except the front intro section.) It is intersting considering it has duet or pair dancing elements in it.
If u r wondering wad happen to the PN specials, we are still in the midst of getting the video done up, so do be a lil patient :P

PN'11
YO ppl,
u guys were awesome for PN'11 FIREWORKZ. YEAH. Hope u guys enjoyed yrself, cos i enjoyed it rili rili much, esp. party time. WOOHOO (still haven't calmed down from the 'high')
Good job to all the performances!!! sec 1s, altho it was your first time, but the performance was rili rili good, prolly one of the best i have seen since PN started. Sec 2s, loved yr choreography, it is the first time in PN u guys r putting in emotion into the dance. heehee
would like to highlight a few ppl. firstly the emcees, vatsal and aloysius, u guys were great at being emcees. secondly, chan kai yan's first appearance as YAM AH MEE lol. it was epic (wonder were u bored after saying the same thing so many times) hope u will also live a long life and have many children. for the rest of the org comm and sec 3s, thx very very much in help run the event. u guys were fantastic too!
Most imptly, let's thank Deo who is the OIC for PN'11. he is the one who pulls everything tgt and make everything possible. this PN he came up wif several new concepts and ideas, so round of applause for everyone!!!!!
On the side note, for ppl who are absent for PN, pls rmb to submit yr excuses nxt trng (tmr) with relevant proof.
Stay tuned for the delayed telecast of DVOTW FIREWORKZ special.

Its the 20th Anniversary of DVOTW! :D (well technically we're late but its special so we took extra time to prepare it) :)

Performance Night Vetting
Hello everyone,
The vetting will be outside the auditorium (above the Hall Foyer) at 17th June, Friday. The timings for the Sec 1 and 2 vettings are different. Sec 1s report at 11 am, Sec 2s report at 10 am. Please bring your costume for the vetting as well as the song in a thumbdrive/send it to deo.rcy@gmail.com by thursday night. (Please do not bring CD ty!)
For those who hav no idea wad to where, think along the lines of : FIREWORKZ. it can be bright, explosive, colourfull etc
Performance Night is in 11 days time :D so hope you have been meeting up regularly and practicing for the event, btw the coolest bit is that there are more than 10 schools not to mention lots of VIs and YOs involved so lots of people will be watching you! No Pressure! *wink*
For those poor souls who forgot when PN is, its the 25th of June, Saturday, so please do tell your parents too! Report at 1 pm at the school hall in school based attire (don't forget to bring your costume). The event will end at 10 pm.
And have you finished your holiday homework yet? Oops sorry did I just remind you of your horrible pile of homework? :D *sadisticgrin* HURRY UP AND FINISH IT. Holidays are ending in 1 week! (ohnoes!)

We are featuring I.aM.mE once again, back with a very interesting choreography. If u have noticed the recent series of super hero movies (X-men, Green Lantern, Cap Am etc) this dance shld ring a bell.
Now let's welcome the super hero dance crew I.aM.mE !!!
If u watch, the solo freestyle is nonetheless amazing, but what is rili interesting is what the people at the side are doing when it is not their turn to solo.
Here is a tip for yr PN performance: minimise stoning time. Even if a select group of people are dancing, the rest shld still do something. It can be simple, repeated movements and steps or formation work like what u see in the vid.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 18
Hey all,
Considering the number of people you have in your batch, I really advise you to work more on your formations rather than choreography itself; your steps can be a lot simpler, as long as you coordinate your steps and get the formation as clean and fluid as you can!
Here's a large team choreography from last years Body Rock dance competition (They won 3rd btw)
1. Take a look at the start; they did a lot of walking around and formation changing; Simple steps, lots of confidence and energy = good starting!
2. Level play - You just need to change the height of your moves to make it varied. Just by doing your moves at different levels can provide a variation to what the crowd will see! E.g. Some people do the moves while in a "proposing" manner, some at a half squat and the rest standing up. (or you can just make use of the natural order of life, from tall to tallest XD)
3. USE THE STAGE. The stage is big, so spread yourselves out or compact according to what you think suits the music; Spreading yourselves out will help make moves that are already big, BIGGER. Compacting yourselves will help make moves look more concentrated and help disguise mistakes.
4. USE THE STAGE. Try not to always use center focus, try to use some method to get everyone to look to the left of the stage or right of the stage every now and then :) it helps make people look around the stage instead of concentrating on the same spot every now and then.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 16
Hey guys,
Hopefully for those who got disastrous results (like me), this will cheer you up.
A relatively new crew competing on a new season of America's Best Dance Crew, I.aM.mE. But these dancers aren't new to the dance scene at all, we have been seeing videos of them since 2009. 2 of their members, Moon and Pacman, are great tutters, so you can actually see elements of tutting (making 90-degree angles with your arms) in their performances.
In addition to moves that every member of a group does on his own, you could experiment with what we call "team moves", which involves the entire group getting together to achieve an intended effect. It could be a massive tutting sequence seen in the first few seconds of the performance above, or something else that, with a member not present, the move would not be possible. Team moves add something different to a dance, hence we try to include at least one in every.
This is why you guys should meet up more, freestyle to random music, learn more about each others' styles of dancing and make use of each other's strengths. Holidays are in a week's time, so unless you are down for intensives, start now (or after MM for year 2s)!

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 14
Hi everyone,
Although the Mid-years are ongoing, let's take a little break to watch a little video :)
Illusion - A very cool bit of dance that I will be sharing with you today:
In this choreography, there are some bits and pieces of "ultra-fast motion/movement" which you may or may not have noticed. If you didn't really see, its fine, because it blends so well with the music that it may be hard to pick up the first time. In dance, to follow the fast beats, you don't have to make ultra big movements and make it so concise. Because the actions happen so fast, people will simply get the feeling that you hit every single fast beat, and then they'll all go WOW! The main thing is behind this ultra-fast movement is the STYLE in which you did the move and not the actual move.
An example I can give you to try is this: When you drink water, you may find yourself doing 3 simple actions:
1. Pick up the cup.
2. Pour water into the cup (using your other hand)
3. Bring the cup to your mouth.
3. Bring the cup to your mouth.
4. Drink water.
If you make all these 4 steps into a dance move, make it sharp, maybe add a little bit of footwork here and there and do the 4 steps to a quick beat and you'll get something really cool.
Ok enough procrastinating, go back to your work. :)

It is only counted as incomplete if you do not have:

- Belt Buckle
- Shirt / Pants / Belt
- Beret*
- Uniform Buttons
*People who are missing berets or uniform buttons please inform Colin by Tuesday. We may have stock of these items.
Take note that if you are only missing badges, you will still need to join the contingent.
For those who have already paid money for uniform parts earlier, we are still trying to get the items as Red Cross HQ has been busy with the relief efforts in Japan, and did not entertain the purchasing of uniform parts. Also, the uniform supplier has also changed. The year 1s have not received their uniforms too, so we expect that those of you that need new uniforms may only be able to get it at the same time as the year 1s. We will try and get your uniform parts ASAP.

I vaguely recalled someone telling me during the dance workshop if they can “My heart will go on” for their PN dance item. Well, classical songs can be quite challenging to dance to u know. You rili nid to present and display the feel.
So, we have an example of Mike Song doing a solo to classical music.
Few things you should notice.
1. The awesome waving and isolation technique. This is call skills and it takes time to learn. Those who came for the workshop shld know abt this.
2. as always, notice how he hits the beat / lyrics / music, how nicely the moves fit the song. The idea is to have your moves “singing” the song
3. One thing which may be lacking in choreography is dynamism. It is important to engage your hands, legs, body and head to give yr moves variety.
Hope this serves as an enjoyment in the midst of the stress from MYCTs. (it is important to relax at times u noe)

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 12
Hello everyone,
The Year 1s have just gotten back from the World Red Cross Day at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, which I hope you've enjoyed. There was also a mass dance there, so to add on to the dance atmosphere, here's an insane combination between the S**t Kingz, Mariel Martin and Keone Madrid!
When I was watching this, I couldn't stop watching how they'd easily change their formations and do team-based moves. Formations and making your team movements will be one of the hardest things you will probably face, especially since you have so many people in the formations to move!
Also, you might want to check out how "weird" their song choice is, picking many slow songs and those songs that are probably far off from your typical listening genre. Slow songs and these "weird" genre music can be very difficult to dance with, so you need to know how to play with the beats and match it with your moves!
Remember that your MYCTs are coming up, so remember to study hard too!

Funds collected from Newspaper Collection
Hi guys,
Good news! We collected $388.70 from Newspaper Collection this year, more than last year's $376. Although this falls a little short of our goal of $400, this is still a very good result as there was heavy construction and many units did not have newspaper for us to collect.
The funds will be donated to VWOs that we will be working with over the course of the year, which will be announced next semester.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 10
Hey!
It's number 10! Can't believe we have come this far. Remember sometime back, we mentioned Shaun Evaristo? His moves are freaking @^&$%&#$!# smooth. Oops lol.
When dancing, what matters the most is your confidence. It affects directly how much you want to show to your audience. Of course, if you want to be as smooth as he is, you'll need some technique and a little bit of muscle. But all of these come naturally after some time.
MYCTs are nearing. Have you started? Muahahahahaha.

DANCE VIDEO OF THE WEEK 9
Hey!
Before Saturday ends, lets get down to DVOTW 9! America's Best Dance Crew. It was the first dance competition we were introduced to, but don't be too into the world of ABDC. Why? Because I myself used to think the JabbawockeeZ were the best dance crew in the whole world ever. But as I took notice of more competitions (especially the more underground ones), I realized there were many crews as synchronised as them. Not that they are bad though, they are far from it. Just stating that because ABDC is much more mainstream, people fall into the trap of taking the crews that compete as the only good ones. Which was why we started off with Kyle and Lyle, etc.
This is my favourite performance from them! And one of the best in the history of ABDC as rated by its creator, Randy Jackson. Oh, and season 6 is coming soon!

Excuse Form for Trainings, Camps & Special Events
Hello everyone,Please see below for the Excuse Form. It must be used each time you are absent from training, camp or any other official Red Cross events. If you are more than 30 minutes late for training, an Excuse Form will also be required. By the way, please don't trouble your teachers to fill in the form for you (or send emails or write letters to excuse you). Just fill in the form yourself and get your teacher to endorse it (for school-related excuses). Also, submitting the first page of the excuse form will do. The Attendance Procedures and Regulations are on the last 2 pages. Thanks!
